i am looking at getting a used 2008 F250 work truck. No frills no thrills, 2 door, plane jane. I have my eye on an manual trans 2008, with 45k.

Test drive went well, is there anything special i need to know?

*or point me in the right direction to the dumb new guy asking questions that have been asked too many times thread?

If it's a diesel engine you will want to read up on common problems and how to prevent/fix them.

What engine/transmission combination are you looking at? Also, look at the door sticker. When was the truck built, and what are the axle codes?

As for buying a used truck, make sure it has LOAD RANGE E tires on it. A lot of sellers will throw new LOAD RANGE D or lighter tires on the trucks when they are selling them, to save a few $$$$.

It's a gas, 5.4l, 6 speed, 4x2, regular cab, vinyl interior.

I don't know the door codes, I'll look the next time I see it.

If this is 4x4, then ensure the system works well. Also if it is shift on the fly go out and manually turn the hubs and make sure they turn freely.

I'd be check the front brakes to ensure they are ok. Backs would not hurt as well.

Normal fluid checks and if the owner is not around or lets you take the truck for a few, doing a little towing with it is good too.

There may be a slight issue with the engine. On removal, the factory spark plugs might break. It is only an issue if your truck was built before 10/9/07. It does not affect driveability.

Otherwise, the truck is pretty bulletproof.

 

The ceramic portion of the plug? Okay, good to know. I've been twisting wrenches for a few years, so hopefully that will not present a huge problem.

Also, i believe the owner does have the lower range tires on the truck, but ill use that a bargaining leverage, if my assumption is correct.
