Hey everyone I'm new to this site, wanted to see if I can get some good ideas from you. I have a 2010 ford e350 extended passenger van with the 5.4 in it. I have approx. 60xxx miles on it and was wondering if anyone has supercharged or procharged they're van. I had the same van with the 6.8 before and must say I miss the power. I have yet to do an intake and exhaust( coming soon) and would love to stick a procharger or supercharger under the hood. Any ideas, tips, criticism is appreciated.
By the way the van is my daily driver for work and pleasure, and doesn't usually pull anything more than a ton or 2 of bricks an sand. Thanks
I've not heard of too many regulars here speak of superchargers too often---turbochargers in on a diesel-equipped E-Series certainly. Just not too many looking for the kind of kick in the pants sorta boost?
There's a performance section on FTE that deals with the modular motors---maybe post this there too? Can't hurt that's for sure!
Hi there:
Given the price of a supercharger (you could buy an old 5 liter Mustang for what it would cost for a new supercharger and kit) and the small space under a van's engine cover, might a nitrous kit maybe make more sense for that occasional kick in the pants? The van will have lots of room for nitrous bottles, and it will definitely give you a kick in the pants.
Thanks for the ideas. I was looking at a few nitrous kits today actually as I did consider it. I liked the idea of power when I want it but nitrous is cheaper just gotta be careful of the police around here

I have owned big vans since 1986 and have never really aspired to making one of them fast. in my own history, I have also owned two 426 Chrysler Hemi cars (including a Hemi Cuda with a 12.5:1 race hemi), a couple Corvettes, and a number of other muscle cars and sports cars. And I have a few rusty old drag racing trophies from the 70's....
I adore big vans for their pure function, but even if you do a lot of work on one of them, you still end up with a huge tugboat that will get beaten by fast 4 cylinder cars. And they tend not to stop or corner well.
Still, I do like the Jarvis van in my Youtube above. The guy does drive it to the dragstrip. And he COULD beat a lot of fast cars.

My V10 E350 will outrun nearly anything from 0 to 45mph.
I say GO with the supercharger- the hardest part is probably the ducting (and inter cooler- but I believe you can omit that if you keep boost below 8 or 10psi).
Take the jump, then come to Florida and line up next to my V10.

With all due respect, a 5500+ lb van with 305 horsepower ain't gonna beat a 3500 lb Mustang with 400+ horsepower to 45 unless they are falling off a cliff...
I have no idea why people think trucks are viable hot rods in any world where there are fast cars. They are huge and heavy beasts and you are entitled to be proud to own one, but don't be delusional about the real performance--"physics, it's the law"... What is your fastest quarter mile time slip?
YoGeorge you and I must be the two old farts here in the vans forums! Both a bit too practical maybe?
I think as motorheads we're all prone to try building the bigger, better or faster mousetrap even if it weighs in at 5,000 lbs and more. I've always thought the process of hot rodding something has probably moved so much of our technology ahead in development, that the trickle down effect of increasing reliability and sometimes MPG's might not have come to be had someone not been looking to push an envelope.
Super or turbo charging a van motor isn't for me but I'll gladly stand on the sidelines and look in. After all its nothing but money right?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to drag the van or make it a race car, I just wouldn't mind a little more hp for passing , and the occasional civic on the highway. And to make it a little more fun driving it. I have a 1970 455 lemans, and turbod eclipse to take to the track when the vans not enough for me.

We're all with you or at least hoping you make this a project and keep us updated on the progress and results too!
If it is what you want to do, go for it!! In my mind you don't need to justify it....just saying "Cause I want to" is fine. It's your time and money.
If all you are looking for is a little more pep, couldn't you do that with an intake/exhaust/cam? I don't know alot about the 5.4, but I would think there would be improvements that could be made.
I do understand the temptation though. My '88 e250 is a N/A 7.3 diesel. I am extremely tempted to put a turbo on it....but with the money I would spend on it I could purchase multiple track weekends. Opportunity cost!
But don't get me wrong....if you do this I will be standing cheering watching an e350 get sideways!!!!

Sounds like you do have some genuinely fast cars. Is it worth that much money and hassle to pass a Civic on the freeway? My favorite van competition would be challenging the Civic to carry a couch, queen sized mattress, or a ton of lumber inside and out of the rain...or 15 passengers. I love my van but have never looked at driving it as "fun", really, except that it can take people and their toys to places where they can then have some real fun...(Boy Scout campouts, family vacations, cycling trips, and musical adventures in my case).
If I had money to play with my van, I'd lift it, put big tires and a stiffer rear end gear in it, and build an off-roader out of it or something. And being a gearhead, I have definitely thought of projects like this. But I'm retired and am trying to hold onto some money in case I ever need a heart transplant or something
But I'll watch whatever you might do with interest. And I love watching the Jarvis van run, but that's a shorty Chevy cargo van and serves as a great rolling advertisement for the guy's hot rod business.
As far as th OP goes.....I think the Guy's name is Mike....and his Company is called 5 Star Tuning.....that and Intake /exhaust mods will work wonders.... What is your Rear end Ratio ?
For the record my 7.3 DIT will keep up with anything on the road ....and when towing a 5-10k trailer will walk away ........When I put my Stage 1*s in .......forgetaboutit....New tranny time....
I would also like to say that , my 77 F350 can smoke the Duallys...and has carried and Dumped 10k a few times....

Yes, but a Turbo Diesel is a different animal than a N/A gasser................
And stop tempting me to put a turbo on my 7.3 IDI van!!!

this is pure lol ..why because i have already done this in a fully loaded e350 .. gosh darn first rain of the season a few years ago .. or atleast thats what i blame it on its even more fun in the excursion 7.3 with 5 kids in it with them screaming and yelling more more
