I have a 99 Sport and for some reason the person who bought it prior to me had the keyless entry removed. I found some original paperwork and its noted that keyless entry was removed. I thought this was a standard on the vehicle and if the dealership removed it would the wiring harness still wired in and they would just pull the box. Where would I look to find where the box was originally located and is it possible to just get a new box as I have remotes from my 99 Mustang I may be able to reprogram.
It's easy enough to check if the keyless module still works. Rapidly turn the ignition from "lock" to ""run" (NOT "start") up to 10 times. If you still have the module, then the door locks will lock and then unlock after you've turned the key either 5, 8 or 10 times (it varies from model to model). If this happens, then you just press one of the buttons on the remote that you have within 5 seconds. If the doors lock and unlock again, then you've just programmed that remote to the Explorer. If not, then you need to get the right remote for your vehicle. Good luck!
If this doesn't work, then you might not have keyless entry. But try looking in the left rear quater panel compartment towards the front to see if the module is there.
I looked in that compartment (rear drivers side) and did not see a box or module- would the wiring harness still be in the vehicle if it was removed by the dealership???
Ford is very specific about their wiring. Some of the stuff, they're interchangeable, but some, are for a specific model with a certain option. If you don't have that option, you won't get the wirings for it.
For example: If you got an Explorer without a CD changer in the console, you won't have wiring harness in the main bunch of wires. Same goes for the message center. If you don't have the message center, don't bother installing one because you'll have to connect and splice a whole lot of wires.
Well...keyless entry is another one of those. If you don't have it, then you won't have the wirings and don't suspect the dealer taking it out because they don't want to waste the money ripping out the system. So if you want keyless entry, you can spend about $100 getting a keyless entry and an alarm. It's a pretty good investment.
But if the Keyless entry was a standard feature of the 99 Sport and the customer wanted it removed as the paperwork states- then I would think the harness would still be there and the box would simply be removed- I think-
So if I understand correctly the box would have been located in the rear compartment where the jack is located towards the front(drivers side) - correct??

Does your vehicle have the keypad entry on the outside of the driver's door?

Not if the customer ordered the Explorer and had the option deleted. In that case it would have never been installed at the factory, and the customer would have gotten a small credit. I deleted the standard paint stripe kit from my '94 Ranger STX when I ordered it new and got about a $120 credit. My window sticker said something like "paint stripe deleted" and had the credit in parenthesis next to it.

First, I don't blame you for ordering your '94 STX without that stripe. My '94 was done the same way (I didn't buy it new), and I'm sure it was because that stripe was just about the gaudiest thing I ever saw- huge, multi-color decal about a foot high, sweeping down the side and over the tailgate. As for the keyless entry, there was never the option of deleting it- it was part of the model. You either got a base model without, or the nicer ones came with it- there was no "delete" option.
SWEET!!! Oh yeah, the truck is nice too! I like how you painted the grille and bumper to match- did you paint the rear bumper, too? Sleek tonneau, this is one nice-looking truck; very clean, not overdone. Nice job!

After reviewing the original window sticker there is a 150.00 credit for Remote keyless entry- I am assuming that the keyless entry was not put in my vehicle- I dont understand why as it has just about every other feature and convenience group- oh well- I guess I dont have it and will have it installed to make life easier-
