propane injection?

propane injection?
First pod sorry about the last thread posted prematurely. Does propane injection really do what is promised? From what I heard it sounds great but don't know anybody who actually has a system. If it is what I hear if like to know how much propane I should be running into my truck. Yes my 6.9 is turbo charged. And if you guys think it is with it I'm gong to do it and get a pneumatic in electric out relay and set it to open the solenoid at a pre determined boost level. Thanks for the help.

Propane will get you gains but as for a hard hp gain number that's totally subject to each setup. I personally don't like "drugs". But done right it can be an asset but hardly anyone does it in a way that's not damaging. On the truck I'm building I will use wAter injection I feel there is greater benefit to water than LP and nitrous. I had a friend with a 7.3 powerstroke and had propane on it and kept increasing the amount to the point of damaging his pistons and rings. Several broken rings and a cracked piston. He had a chip if some sort and LP injection and it was a pretty penny to fix. That just my expirence with. But if you do do it post a thread about it so we can see the results pleAse. And good luck

Thanks that really helps me out really v appreciate it the only difference with what my set up is going to be is that I'm going to be using a pneumatic in electric out relay since mine is turboed and I want mine coming on with a higher level of boost I'm thinking arond ten pounds of boost

Pneumatic is a good idea. If you wanted a lil more way up top you could make it a two stage setup with a second hobbs switch set at a higher boost pressure. I have heard of a guy doing a setup like that before and he liked it a lot. Plus it would make it more like a variable controller, which would help make a lil more power as well.

Now when you mention two stage you mean say I'm releasing 5 psi of propane at ten to twelve psi of boost and then realising let's say 8 psi of propane at thirteen to fifteen psi of boost. That's all just used for example for explanation. And I think it might also be s good idea to set the relay to activate a tad bit sooner to compensate for the delay of the propane release.

Yeah you got the gist of it. Another thing I would recommend is to somehow use the heat from the coolant to heat up the propane so there is no chance of it entering the engine as a liquid. I'm not sure its an absolute necessity but iirc ATS diesel used to do it with their old kits and any safety measure is always a good thing...

Alright cool, and yah I suppose that would not be a bad thing to look into and figure out how I might go about doing that. Maybe put tee's in the heater core lines down to a smaller size and wrap it around the propane line, life a heart trace on water pipe. Or maybe running it close to the exhaust, when I bring it up into the engine bay. Aside the is plenty of talent hear from the exhaust and it would warm up faster than the coolant. I'll have to look around at some kits and see if they put anything thing in then you would tie into your cooling system.
