Ha! That's never good...
I will admit you did make me a little nervous for a second, even though I knew I used the fuel additive

If you decide to get any more Rev-X try putting it in the oil.

*EDIT Does 20-29% 2-Ethylhexyl nitrate pass muster? What little I know about chemistry, that looks pretty good.
That is one of two compounds typically used to improve (boost) the cetane rating of diesel fuels. Generally speaking, the higher the cetane value of a diesel fuel, the shorter the ignition delay and the better chance there is for complete (or MORE complete) combustion. In other words, the diesel fuel's combustibility is higher as the cetane value increases. Keep in mind, though, that cetane is only one of several important diesel fuel properties, some of the others being density, lubricity, sulfur content, and cold-flow properties.

That said... 2-Ethylhexyl nitrate is a good thing, and if your additive is advertising cetane improvement characteristics, it should have either "2-Ethylhexyl nitrate" or "di-tert-butyl peroxide". Other alkyl nitrates are used as well.

Call me ignorant, but I don't think kerosene leaves a thin film over parts to prevent wear.
Yep. Short term and/or initial cleanup use is not really a big deal, but long term use does have its price

My fave is E-Z Oil Diesel Clean but it's not readily available. Engine feels happy on that juice, tho only used two bottles. I mostly run two stroke oil or Power Service Diesel Kleen, whatever falls to hand. I went back and forth with an additive and without until it was obvious (by sound and starting) having something was better than nothing.

This has been a very good tread since it is digging into what additives actually make a better diesel additive. Now I myself can't figure out the MSDS info to save my life so thanks F350 for pointing out what chemicals do what.

I myself use DK but in the dead of winter last year I have had tried XDP Polar. And with the XDP Polar I seemed to get better mileage but it didn't to want to start as quick as it does with the DK. Has anyone else ever tried the XDP Polar? And I am more unclear if it is actually better per the MSDS sheet ?

So if one you guys that know what chemicals do what can give me a read on break down. Like what is hydrocarbon naphtha ? Sounds to be better used in gasoline or is a form of gasoline??? I'm confused
