Transmission Questions

I have a 1984 ford f150 that is 2wd. Im swapping a 460 into it. but wanting to be different i found a 1969 ford mustang 4 speed transmission. it comes with the linkage/shifter. But the thing is that the transmission came from a 351 windsor. besides the 429/460 bellhousing and clutch what am i going to need to put this in my truck? an what year bellhousing will i need? and what clutch pedal setup will i need to source?

All you need is the bellhousing. Transmission will be fine. Get the bellhousing and it will all bolt right up.

I wouldn't necessarily say "the transmission will be fine"
Shifter location is going to be an issue.
While the Ford 'butterfly' pattern may be the same, mounting to a truck crossmember, and dealing with the torque of a 460 against the weight of a laden pickup might not be.

Are you going with a hydraulic clutch Chris?

Which clutch would be the best to go with? Will I need to change any shafts on the tranny? I just don't know if the small block tranny will bolt to the 460. The 460 is a 78

I don't know what transmission was behind the 460 before, but AFAIK they were never offered with a manual while they were still internally balanced.
(this was a running change during the '79 model year)

So... if you use a 460 bell it WILL be hydraulic.
You can use a 351m/400 bell but need to check for pressure plate clearance.
The 460 crank flange has more stickout than the M.
(Gary Lewis has a big thread about going the other way with a 460 ZF behind his 400)

You will need to use a zero balance 390 flywheel or the expensive L&L one.
Be sure to use a manual transmission starter with a flywheel, the flexplate version will hang up and self destruct.

I have no idea what the input splines are on a '69 mustang 4 speed either.
Maybe some research on a site like Mack Transmissions will list the input shaft size and splines in the parts breakout.
Then find a clutch that will fit the FE flywheel and has compatible splines.
Check that the input shaft fits into the pilot bearing of the 460.
