Master cylinder material

I have a '52 F3 that I'm redoing the brakes and looking at buying a master cylinder. It looks to me that the Cardone new ones are aluminum and the re-manufactured ones are the original cast steel. Is there any difference in the quality and longevity?

Almost all new vehicles have aluminum Masters. They will corrode but so does the steel original. So the real question IMHO is new or rebuilt. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks. I did go with new, I figured what the heck. When it got here it was just as massive and heavy as the original one I took off.

Now it's on to the brake lines; has anyone found any good kits? I have zero experience and shaping and flaring.

I bought pre made lines from O'Reilly's. Had to cut and flare two lines. Shaping lines really isn't rocket science just take your time and use a tubing bender for tight angles.

They should, but the kits aren't that expensive. You should invest in one. You never know when a line or a flare will need to be redone.

A real good doubleflare kit is a handy thing to have as it'll do fuel lines as well. I have a snapon and it does a good job but i am looking to upgrade. I'd stay away from a cheap kit....they are brake and fuel lines if you follow me.
Having your own kit is the only way to make it exact, i suspect that that is what you want to do or you wouldn't be here.
Old flare kits are as good or better than new ones, i've never heard anybody of wearing them out, go to ebay motors and look under 'vintage tools' and i bet you'll find what you need.

Thanks everyone. I just watched 2 YouTube videos on double flaring - I can do this!!

I'm not home right now, does the '52 F3 have 3/16ths brake line?

Although expensive, the hydraulic flare tools are soooooo much nicer to use than the manual ones.
