Is this a Federal Emissions OBD-1 or a California Emissions OBD-2?
OBD-1 is Speed Density so you can't do too much to it.
OBD-2 is MAF, which is a little more flexible.
Keep in mind these trucks have a rev limiter in the PCM that starts at 4,200 rpm and it's all in at 4,500 rpm.

My 0.02 USD worth . . .
I would suggest you put a Banks Engineering PowerPack exhaust and inlet kit on your truck. Pretty fool-proof and it does what Gale Banks says it will do.
Not cheap, but it's all engineered to work together.
