On to the next question. Does the 2012 6.7 hold back during break in? Seems a little slow for 400 hp. It's faster than my old 7.3 but I kind of expected more
I was just joking about the 2011 being faster, my 11 is tuned and it really wakes up the truck, but if you like your warranty, you right by avoiding it.
Well I'll get bashed probably but whatever, I don't care. My 5.9 Cummins had more pep than this 6.7 Powerstroke does and I've yet to get over 14.6 mpg in it (entire tank average). I guess the Dodge having a 4 speed made it quicker with less gear changing but it got better mileage even with less gears. Even when I get on the interstate and run 65-70 it only shows 17mpg on the readout. Mine is either a dog or there's a lot of lying folks on here. Wish I hadn't sold the Dodge but after reading post about getting 17-21 mpg here I got excited, oh well I'll trade it in when it gets close to 100k.
Not to totally hijack this thread but my experience with fuel economy is that it is greatly influenced by driving habbits. Not just highway speeds either. I have had cars in the past that were driven for long periods of time by other drivers, where the previous driver complained about the poor milage. My experience in the same vehicle was 20 to 30 percent different. I tend to be a very light footed driver and have gotten the sticker or better fuel economy on almost every vehicle I have owned. One exception was '90 Suburban that got 10 or 11 no matter how I drove it.
I have just at 15k miles on my 2012 and have averaged 16.4 miles per gallon total. I use PM 22 most of the time but not always. Most of my miles are towing something. Usually in the 5,000 to 12,000 lb range. Almost no short trips and mostly open highway miles. I have another truck that gets used for short trips and around town.
I think if I used the truck for a short commute every day my fuel consumption would be way worse. I find that the truck doesn't even get fully up to temp for almost 20 or 30 minutes.
I am still amazed that a vehicle that weighs in at just under 4 tons dry is able to do what these trucks will do and still get reasonable fuel economy.
I am liking it. sitting at 14.9 running around town where my 6.4 would be 13. Mileage seems the same for hwy runs....but my 6.4 came in at 8200 lbs. This new dually comes in over 9K and it is a long box.
Driving habits/traffic so many other things play apart in it.
That 5.9 cummins for Grout-Scout did so well because of less or rather no emissons and a much lighter truck as well.
Just for kicks take a drive to the top mountains, reset the gauge and coast most of the way down, it brings great joy to watch the display hit 30 mpg plus, doesn't last long but it sure makes a guy feel like he got his money worth out of that tank. I'm getting 15.5ish around town, 18 freeway, mucho better than my chiped out Duramax. Drops considerably with something on the hitch, but pulls so smoothly you forget you having something behind you...
