I'm thinking of bidding on that but... what's the deal with the lower mounting tabs needing rework to fit my '78? Looking at Rich's picture, the bottom seems to be oval whereas the one on ebay is rectangular. I guess the contour of the bumpers are a bit different on 78 /79?
Would this be a beat to fit, paint to match deal or I'm I going to need a torch to really move and reshape the metal?
just measured, fairly nice 77.5/79 bumper down the basement center to center bolt holes 32 inches,,ill mock my pushbar up later see how it sits, post back
IIRC, the lower feet (mounting tabs) that were rounded are 78/79 and the one's with the rectangular feet were 73-77.

My Dad bought a 2wd orange freewheeler new in 77 and it came with the pushbar. I made some CAD drawings of the 77 pushbar and modified the mounts in the drawing for a 78/79. I tried to find a fabrication shop that could reproduce it but found nobody was capable of making the bends. Eventually I found an original pushbar with foglights, ford switch and oem wiring harness/relay. On 78/79s the fog lights were mounted low on 4x4s and higher on the 2wds(the way my lights are mounted). There are two places for the light tabs.
I am partial to them since they are unique to our trucks.
Just curious...what's the appeal for these, just rarity??? Cosmetics only??? Not very functional short of being a light holder. I can't imagine they'd be very strong...about on par with the factory roll cage in Broncos. They just stick out like a sore thumb to me, unless you have a black truck or alot of black accessories, they don't match anything.
Well to me it just like the look of it, and I do not even have any lights on it.
Besides if I need to push something around, I use this one or the Bronco.
Well not the red one anymore since its overhaulin....

You can't buy a new aftermarket pushbar or brush guard of any kind anymore. Personally I wanted something that looked decent and could be used to mount lights. I wanted a chrome one with the vertical plates and horizontal bars. These oem bars are actually pretty strong and heavy for a bolt on.
I wrote the fella on ebay heres his quote:"32 inches on the mounting Holes Hope this helps Thanks" ok according to Scott mine is for the early trucks and both early and later are 32inch centers,,,,I think I gave 35 dollars for mine ,and didnt really want one,but after acquiring and cleaning it up,,,it sort of grows on you And they are heavy duty

The lower holes are identical from '73-'79. It's the UPPER holes that are different! The holes are on the same centers, but the early bumpers are more sloped on the upper holes than the later style. You can put an early push bar on a later bumper, but you either don't use the upper mounts, or have to modify them to fit.
I'll mention here that the push bar on Alice has only had two bolts holding it on for three years now. (I don't use it for anything but looks.)
