Ok all. I have a custom 40 gallon gas tank in the rear of my 74 highboy and I got rid of the in cab tank. The sending unit goes in the top of the tank. Now I had the shop put in a sending unit but apparently it is to short because it reads empty at half a tank. So I still have about 20 gallons left when it says E. So what I want to do it make the sender longer. By doing this will it affects the ohms of the sending unit? From what ive found I understand that the guage and sender read 10-73 ohms. Now will this be the same if I lengthen the arm on the sender?
Also, id like the in dash gauge to work in parallel with a Auto Meter gauge under the dash because my fuel gauge has always been kinda goofy so figure ill stay on the safe side and either way I like the gauges hanging under the dash.lol
But I need to know which sender to get and what ohms it will be at so I know if my in dash will work and I know which auto meter gauge to get with it.
Ok so I found this link below. Apparently ford gauges have a non linear movement so half tank on the dial isn't cenetered. But that adjustable sender I found seems to be linear because it shows the fuel lever at half full with 33 ohms.
You can get the sender with the gauge from Auto Meter....it is adjustable for depth. How much I don't know but I'm sure a phone call would fix you right up.
Sorry, I can't remember what your gauge needs for ohms but your truck has to have the right one which AM would know anyway.

Thanks grinner. I think im just going to lengthen the stock one and call it good with just the stock gauge. Easier and I rather have a working in dash one then one that's just there doing nothing.lol
