Rancho 9000 Adjustability

The last time I had adjustable shocks I was running Konis on my '69 Volvo. To adjust them you had to unbolt them from the bottom end and twist them 180 degrees. That makes the Rancho 9000s look like a pleasure to adjust!

Do any Rancho 9000 users use the softer settings?? I value durability very highly and view the adjustability as a means to “tighten them up” over time to extend their life. The reason I ask is, for example, if no one uses settings 1 thru 4 for whatever reason, then there are only 5 “usable” settings. I suppose I should also ask about the firmer settings but I doubt there is an issue there.

I'd likely “tighten them up” when towing but that is infrequent.

thanx,,,

I had the older RS9000s on my 86 FSB w/ 6" lift and 35s. It took me about 2 weeks to "tweek" them the way I liked. I had the front set to 3 and rear set to 5. It minimized body roll and the ride was still comfortable. I didn't tow anything with that Bronco. I can't say much about the newer RS9000s. But, even going with the in cab air adjuster module, I'd be worried about frozen lines and blowing out my shock pressure in cold conditions. I don't know how legit my worries are since I never implemented that setup on any of my rigs.

I wouldn't mind testing a new set out on my F250 though.

I wish it were so...I just did a complete front and back install using the 9000 series. I find that the max setting is the same as the stock 5000 feel. The adjustment only seems to allow a drift from stock to softer. Not really what i had in mind. Also the myride add on...only provides a wireless control of the stock to soft setting arrangement. In other words...the my ride air pump does not pump air into the shock to add PSI and make them stiffer....the pump sends air to a device...that behaves like the rotating adjust **** does....and performs the preset.

I like mine at the max setting which is the stock 5000 setting. So I am headed for a dual front implementation.

The max setting of the RS9000XL is more comparable to a monotube "firmness". For a RS5000 setting it would be around a 5-6 or so...

Well,,, I should have thought of different settings front and rear but didn't. Thanks!

It seems that to make an adjustment you need to just creep underneath and hand twist the control. Is that right??

Does the adjustment effect compression, rebound, or both??

Besides durability I have one performance issue I hope to solve. I have 24K miles on OE tires and shocks. While turning and hitting a bump or irregularity the rear skitters outwards. Diminishing that alone will make me very happy.

Thanx,,,

Interesting, I'm actually running the opposite (close to it) when empty. I have the fronts at 6, rears at 4. Otherwise my fillings start to chatter.
