2001 f150 4x4. Today I found the radio playing and the last time I was in the truck was 2 days ago. There was no key in the ignition. Also when I had the door open without the key in it, the door chime was going off just as If I had the key in the ignition. Started the truck, drove the truck, still the same. I replaced the light switch 2 days ago but tried taking it out and also putting the old switch back in. Still radio on and door chiming.
OK, I have searched the internet for the location of the ignition switch but the key cylender is what comes up. Could you tell me where it is located.
Thanks
Right below the key tumbler.
Connected with an actuating rod to operate it.
Lots of info comes up on it.
Good luck.
I must be searching wrong. I go to the search field and put in ignition switch and tons of stuff comes up unrelated to search. But thanks for the help.
Did not fix the issue. Another site said a corroded wire in door jam by passenger floor. No issue there either. Someone else said wire in driver door loose or bad. Have not tried that yet. But if that does not work, I am not sure what to do. At least I only lost $20 bucks on an ignition switch and an episode of curse words. Thanks for your help.
The only way for power to get to the radio is through the ignition switch.
Looking at all these other areas is not the answer.
If wiring is damaged around the ignition switch to cause a short, power may get through.
You do know the radio normally does not work unless the ignition is in Run or Acc.
Good luck.
I took my lower panel off under the steering wheel. When I got to the last screw, the radio went off. But somewhere during all this mess, my windows quit working. 1 step at a time
We can't tell you exactly what you will find but you have to search for it within the guideline that the ignition switch circuits are involved.
Maybe there is Rodent damage.
Good luck.
