I/m feeling something in my steering column. I thought it might be a suspension problem like tie rods, etc. I jacked up the front end to see if there was any play in the wheels. There wasn't. The tires are wearing evenly as well. I guess the next point of emphasis would be the steering column itself. Do these get loose over time? Would this be a relatively easy fix?

Occasionally I hear what could be a slight clunking noise. Today I grabbed the steering column itself at about the midpoint where a small rubber like coupling is located and there was a good amount of play. Is it supposed to do this?
Tonight I was looking at this again. I had my neighbor push down and release the front bumper several times while I was underneath trying to find out where the creaking noise was coming from. I think I have isolated it to the driver's side upper control arm. Is there a way to lube this or will it need replacing?
