Improved 6.7L

So that's the headlines out of Ford Motors today at the Texas Fair. Did not read anymore on it except there's going to be some Texas edition to the F-250 line-up.

Bigger turbo, new 5 layer head gasket, upgraded internals and a new fuel system. Turbo and fuel system were the biggest negatives with the 6.7. Glad to see ford is correcting that.

So is it worth the wait in your opinion?

Hmm, I have nothing but good things to say about the current gen 6.7. Personally have had no engine issues in my 2+ years. There have been a few hpfs and turbos blown, but they seem to be few a far in between. Seems this next gen is addressing those issues....

Hard to say, if there was no word of this new gen and I was to buy a new truck, I would buy the current 6.7 in a heartbeat. You know what, knowing this info, I might just wait...

If Ford is truly listening I wish they would give me the same hp and torque on my cab/chassis as they do on their trucks with beds.

Thanks much. Sounds to me, after hearing from a few 6.7L F-250 owners like yourself, they have nothing but good responses about this model from Ford.

I'm currently pricing a 2013" F-250 with of course the diesel set-up. But it never hurts to ask around regarding people's input/opinions. It seems like the longer you wait today (especially in the tech world) the better off you'll be.

snakechaser...you're absolutely spot on there. For instance many a Class C motorhome selections using Ford's array of models as their chose many a time do NOT offer the 6.7L diesel. Just the 10 cylinder gas engine. Why? I have no idea but the responses and reasoning I have recieved sounds like total BS to me.

Just like Ford does NOT offer 18" rims/tires on their XLT model regular cab 4WD but do so in the STX similar truck. Go figure.

Just like Ford offers (or did anyway) their 6.2L gas engine in the Lariat F-150 but NOT in their higher priced King Ranch F-150 version. Go figure.

The engine gets a new GT37 turbocharger with a larger 88-millimeter compressor wheel that will replace the previous GT32. The compressor will force more air into the cylinders to improve performance, particularly at high altitudes, Ford said in a statement.

With the new turbo, new high-pressure fuel pump and fuel injectors, the Super Duty's fuel delivery system has been improved, Ford says. The new injectors, for example, will burn cleaner and result in quieter performance.

Ford said a further benefit of the larger turbo is improved engine exhaust braking, which is manually controlled by a button on the dashboard.

"Extra braking power helps reduce wear and tear on wheel brakes and requires less manual brake application from the driver, especially on downhill grades," the company said.

Ford said Tuesday that it installed its 500,000th 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel in a truck at its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville. The engine was introduced in 2010 for the 2011 model year.

The current F-series Super Duty King Ranch starts at $50,555, including shipping. High-end models including the King Ranch, Platinum and Lariat account for about half of Super Duty sales to individual buyers.

snakechaser,
Just buy the pickup, take the bed off and sell it, and put your work bed on it. That will get you near the same truck with all the power. This is what friend of mine has ended up doing, so he can tow goosenecks with his work trucks and still have a good running truck.

They adjust the tune based on te anticipated duty cycle. The engines are detuned a bit in applications where the truck will be worked heavier gvw. Id prefer the tune for max longevity and reliability vs a tune to hit a certain hp/tq number to look pretty on sales copy.

Are you talking about class C with a truck cab or van cab? I think cooling ssues kept the 6.7 out of the econoline. Truck-cab class c (rare) probably use e v10 for pricepoint. They are pushing class A money as is and an extra7500$ on motor dosnt help

I wonder if the 'more sophisticated injector setup' has a ninth injector? (for regeneration)

I noticed red ELC in the photo....do the current trucks have red ELC now?
