my tilt colum fell apart 0n my 80 f150 so I put a straight one out of a 80 f100 somehow since ive pulled it all the switches dissapeared (17 yr old son)
put tilt switches signal lights are definatly diffrent but got them working.
however ignition only runs on the run circuit. moved it several times and it will only work in one place. runs ok but is hard to start without start circuit working. duraspark box is new. just wondering if switch should be different
Therer should be a little hole in the side of the ignition switch(the one mounted on top of the column under the dash). If you put a paper clip in this hole, it should line the switch up(I believe to the off position) and then you can align it with the arm on the column. There is a lot of slop in the mounting holes.
I have an '81 F100 that I pulled the "three on the tree" column out of and replaced it with a tilt wheel column out of what I think was a 1986 Bronco maybe. Anyhow, the ignition switch connector plugged right up and my signals and all still worked fine so I thought I was good to go.
Then my new battery kept dying on me. When I put a volt meter on the alternator I was only pushing around 11 volts. I couldn't figure it out so I took it to a buddy's shop.
Turns out that even though the connector looked and fit the same one of the pins was in the wrong position. He fixed it by running a new wire form the voltage regulator harness to the switch wiring. I can ask him how he wired it up if you like.
