I recently changed the motor in my 77f150 to 460. The 351 ran still but I got a deal on the 460 it ran very well so I swapped them out also I used the 351 ignition system for the 460 did not change anything to wiring or interal parts but I can not get this engine to fire up for nothing rebuilt the carb it gets fire from the coil ect I am just stuck at this point any suggestion?
Was the ignition ,coil , dist. working right with the 351m ? If so all i can think of is that a connection is not being made someplace , maybe a loose or broken wire. Check the rotor to make sure it's not cracked or broken , cap too . Change out the coil to dist. wire , may be broken. That's all i can think of this early in the morning , just on my first cup of coffee.
If you pull it off and turn over the motor it fires when holding it with a small gap to the coil. I am gonna put new plugs in it and try that. I am really needing the beast to run soon.
Haha, I'm on my first red bull Jim..(need to quit em).. anyways, Wilford, check you're connections at the duraspark box (grey box on the drivers fenderwell) very well and the connections into the distributor.. you're just missing a loose plug somewhere.. I'm upgrading to a hei style distributor soon In hopes of chasing off all my ignition uncertainties.. just walk away for a minute then the problem will be right there when you go back. . Good luck!

Is it firing lightning or a little spark? It should be cracking and shocking the crap out of you if you're holding it..

Yeah you guys get the sun shine about the time i get up, 4:00 AM. here . Wish i could drink a Red Bull but can't do it any more . Old age mess's up a lot of thinks , have fun when you are young, L.O.L.
It almost fired up and then just turns over. I am 100% sure it is in time and I have checked everything ten times over. My grandpa suggested put the points type distributer back in and try it that way. It is something simple but just can't find it.

I 100% agree with that.. I had so much trouble with the factory duraspark box I thought about burning my truck once or twice points if regulated right are very reliable
I am gonna try putting the points type distributer in it and see what happens this weekend hopefully maybe it will work.
I'm sure if you're patient with the system that's in it you can get it rolling right but when they start getting troublesome I take that as an opportunity to put a HEI style or points ignition.. after that its smooth sailing
