Sync and text messaging

So after updating Sync in my Super Duty the system no longer receives text messages on the stereo. Before the update if I was paying attention I could hit a button on the screen and the stereo would speak the text message. Now all I get is my phone is not blue tooth compatible with the system. WTH? Anyone else have this happen and can I be fixed?

Thanks,
Phil

take the phone out of the system and then re-link it.

re-linking might be known as "pairing" in your phone manual.

What phone do you have? I have never been able to get text messages in my truck. I sat down with the Ford tech and went through it step by step. Un-paired and re-paired my phone and still no luck. I have an iphone 4s. The tech's final response is that it doesn't work with all phones. He also said that there was a change in how the system works from the 11/12's to the 13/14's. Something about the newer systems being software based vs the older systems being hardware based. Not sure what that ment. He also said that the older systems being hardware based were quicker to respond to commands.

Mike,

This would be important information to have, absolutely. Depending on the make and model of the phone, the SYNC feature compatibility will vary. Here's a current list of test devices: SYNC and Phone Compatibility | SYNC Support | MyFord Touch | Ford.com

There has been some confusion in the past as to why a phone might occasionally render a feature even though it's not listed as compatible. The list classifies a device as compatible after passing several tests to prove that a feature can function reliably and consistently.

7sixpack7, if you find that your phone should fully support text messages, then we can take some troubleshooting a few steps forward - but we would need more details about the phone you're using.

The update messes with the messaging settings -
Make sure you go back in and set it to "Text to Speech" or however they worded it ---

think it's the last option...

Now they say I have to take it in and my dealer who also could not solve problem will have to work with technician from factory? Goes in tomorrow. Phone is Blackberry.

Hey Celticbhoy,

They may have escalated this to their Technical Support Team. Let me know what they come back with. I'm happy to help where I can.
