guys,
I got a 2005 F-250 crew cab with 91xxx miles on it , I have owned it for about a year now and put 20k miles on it since i got it,
I went out this afternoon to start it after a few days and i quickly drained the batteries, during this process i had to cycle the G plugs several time, batteries died on me before i could get it running,
also i noticed that when i turned the key off my gauge needles where fluctuating a little bit until i turned the key back on then off again
So I took them to napa to get tested , both tested good. Cleaned up cables and bat post, put them back in got it to crank a few times then whamo drained them again?
what is my issue, starter drain?? also anything below 55 deg and it is very hard to start, have to plug it in
please help

Reason: added another symptom
You need to get yourself some gauges that read live data, like scan gauge II ( can be had at autozone for around 160 bucks ) or one of the smartphone apps like dashboss for IOS devices or torque pro for android as they are absolutely necessary in diagnosing problems with these trucks. There is a good chance your problem is the FICM, there is a FICM test procedure in the tech folder at the top of this forum that outlines testing the FICM with a DVM. That is where I would start. If you had gauges you could check the FICM main volts just by turning the key on and looking at your gauge display.

thanks guys will do some reading, DVM== i guess you mean digital volt meter
i got one of those
If your 6.0 will not start cold, the issue may be injectors, the glow plugs or glow plug controller, or it can be the FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module). If after a long cranking with no start you get a lot of white smoke (raw unburnt fuel) out the exhaust, the problem is probably in the injectors or glow plug system.
i have this problem a lot on cold mornings i have to cycle the glow plugs 3 or 4 times if i dont plug it in and then it bellows white smoke, like a old navy boiler
so reading the tech issues , i will check the FICM first and get back to you guys
Welcome to FTE bigmac73 Check voltage at the battery static and when running to see if you are charging also. The truck should start right up, if not, I would look into the glow plug control module.
okay so i took it to the shop turns out the EGR valve was bad and full of carbon, got that replaced and cleaned and also the glow plug module was not communicating so the shop replaced the module and Nr 6 plug and the harness, and the fan clutch was wore out after that stuff was replace, it worked fine for about two weeks and ran great,
I get in it this morning after a cold night and it seems like the GP are draining the battery, i got a few cranks then Click Click, dead .??????
i got the block heater plugged in so maybe i can get it to fire up and get it going...
Any body got any suggestions , maybe my new GP module shorted out?? The shop already charged me 2K for the parts and repairs, the module should be under warranty

......and what is your Scangauge telling you about the engine?
It sounds like your batteries. When they checked your batteries did they do a load test or just check the voltage? The other thing is there might be something draining your batteries.

i did have my Ipod plugged into the stereo overnight too it, so i pulled it out
i thought about that , but i really dont know if that little thing would suck down two batteries, but i could be wrong as well we will see
Chrage the batteries back up and see what happens. I don't think an Ipod would drain the batteries either. If your batteries are more than a couple of years old they may need replacing.
