Header exhaust leak

I put shorty headers on my f-350. It has the 351 in it and it is leaking around where the header bolts to the exhaust pipe. Is there a tape or something that I can get to fix it without to much of a pain?

don't use tape. whats the problem with the seal? disintegrated? not enough torque on bolts? bolts missing or corroded? holes? ? ? the bell style flanges are pretty much torque-til-sealed and are a very reliable method of sealing.

Its leaking here on the driver side. Is there suppose to be a gasket there?

Are you sure its leaking from there? That's the ball flange, very reliable seal. It is possible, however, to overtorque and distort the exhaust side flange causing leak. As long as its in good shape I'd torque it up to see if it helps or hurts and go from there

Have to watch how you tighten those ball sockets. If the pipe is not lined up correctly, it will pinch/distort the ball and cause a leak. Especially if the pipe socket side is not large enough to fit over the ball side. Been there, done that. I had to drop the front pipes and using a small cresent wrench work the radius back into the header side "ball". Then easily snug the pipe back up.

I bought shorties like that, then a dual kit that was suppose to fit stock manifolds. Don't know which part is faulty, but nothing liked up correctly til I cut/welded/bent things around.

I know the old gasket ring was a PITA when they blew out, but this new stuff doesn't always fit correctly.

LOL I bought shorty's that were suppose to fit stock exhaust. Bought them from summit. I think they are pacesetters but I am not sure. They fit after bending and moving stuff around. I cut the cat off and ran duels on out the back. It worked good for the first 5 or 600 miles then it started leaking. I remember that I had a hell of a time getting the pipes to line up with the headers. I will have to go out there and look closer I have just been lazy and haven't checked it out all that close. My mustang has been taking up all my time. I will go out there and look closer.
