I have a 73 High boy that I am in the process of changing out a stock 360 with a 83' 460 that will eventually be blueprinted and balanced. What pedestals do I need? Will a 83 Ford 2 wd pedestal set work? Can I modify my current pedestals? Does the swap create any driveline issues?

The is a different bellhousing bolt pattern for the 460, you will need a different bellhousing or transmission. Assuming that your truck is a factory hi boy 3/4 ton, your drive train should hold up behind the power of the 460. I dont know what to tell you about the engine mounts, you should post on the 73-79 room about that, guys have done the swap before there.

 

I'm in the process of building a 73 highboy w my son. He just picked up a 68 429 to replace the 360. Not sure on motor mounts but 351-400 M bell will work. 460 bell is too deep for your 360 four speed. Input shaft won't engage pilot bearing

 

I am almost positive that you are going to need different motor mounts. If my memory serves me right, the 429/460 has the same mounts as a 351m/400. Being the 360 is a fe motor, it has a different mount altogether.

 

Yeah I was pretty sure the FE mounts wouldn't fly just wasn't too sure if the Mod mounts would. I'm also wondering about the flywheel. If the 390 flywheel bolts up and was from an internally ballanced motor I'm thinking it would be ok? Also found out Ford changed wheel bolt pattern to metric mid1997 while shoping for wheels and tires. Thanks!
