So a few weeks ago my remote quit working. I assumed it was the battery so I replaced it and it's no better. Before I order a new remote is there anything else I should check? Am I going to be able to program the new one without this first one?
Hey, check for water damage. I recently (2weeks ago) had the battery changed in my fob too, and the guy who changed it showed me that there was water in it!! How the hell that happened I have no idea, but I could easily see some corrosion coming out of that and leading to a fob failure.
Just a suggestion....

P.s. my only theory is that the guys at the carwash put the keys on top of the tire while they work to dry it off. Otherwise, it never rains in SoCal and I sure didnt get it wet any other friggin way.

Yep, they all have replaceable batteries. CR2032 button batteries. Any Drug store, Lowes and Home Depot have them in stock.
Yeah, and its super easy to do. Just do it yourself. Pry the fob open and you'll laugh at how simple it is. I only took it to someone because it was right next to the office I was going to anyways and I wasn't sure what kind of battery it took. Now that I know, I will do it myself every time.
I recently bought 2 for 10 bucks off ebay.
Re-programming is a piece of cake. Make sure you re-program all keys again if you do it. It erases all existing keys.
I think you have to cycle the key off to on and back 8 times, last cycle keep it on on. then the door locks will cycle.
Then press the lock button once on each key fob. locks will cycle again for each keyfob.
Once all keyfobs are done, switch key to off
done
