I have a 1996 bronco xl with the cloth bench seat.
The driver side back rest leans back farther than it should.
I have looked to see what was bent but have not been able to find a way to correct it.
I have tried bending the the stop on the seat back and this helps some but does not correct the poblem completely.
Any one had the same problem?

Check the floor mounts on the inner side, next to the console. They tend to break and will cause problems with the driver's seat!

Check any of the mounts on the floor - If they rust out, bend or break, the seat is gonna lean no matter what you do. They're a cinch to fix......

I took my 89 into FORD a couple of years ago and there was a TSB on the seat rail and a problem with the mount. They did the repair fror free. You could probably call your local dealer and give them your VIN and they could run it and see if there was anything that needs to be done.

Yea on my 89 Bronco the driver seat leaned like that. It turned out the floor pan where the seat rails bolt to the floor was ripped. I had to have some strength built (welded) in that area. I don’t know if mine is different from yours but the floor pan steel is not very thick there. I think the guy that owned it before me was a really big dude, and that won’t help ya either!!!

I forgot all about the floor pan! Mine was cracked about 5-6" under the rear-outside mount for the driver's seat, as well as both inner mounts and both seat crossmembers being broken. I think what happens is that when the seat mounting tabs break, then the floorpan cracks. (The previous owner was 300+#) After welding the seat tabs and crossmembers (using a wet cloth to keep from burning up the seat foam), I hammered the cracked floor back into position and welded it. I also made a bracket to bolt under the floor, as well as one above it, then welded and bolted the 2 brackets to the support next to the frame. I'll put a pic in my gallery of the brackets I made.
