On my Diesel you just remove the 30 Amp Maxi fuse in the Engine bay and it disconnects the IDM ..so starter turns but injectors do not fire...These guys make one with a Key fob....Cyclops - Innovative Vehicle Solutions: Products > Alarms > Remote Alarm

I know this is an old thread. JWA, what's the Auto Bolt? I need a simple kill switch. I can remove the Fuel Pump relay when my van is parked for months at a time. However, I need a daily drive solution too.

Cheers!

I'll throw in my two cents. I've never had any experience with a kill switch myself. But I worked with a guy many years back that had served time for car theft. He had a kill switch wired up somewhere in his vehicle that he triggered with a remote button, like we had for garage doors. He carried that button with him all the time. He always said no one was going to steal his truck unless they brought a tow truck!

I know a guy who had his Corvette stolen by a tow truck in front of his office. His co-workers thought it was being reposessed and all were laughing until the end of the day when the owner realized it was gone. Never did recover the Vette.

How about using a GPS tracker? I installed a chinese off brand I got for 20 Dollars under the dash. They also have varieties to switch of the fuel pump.

The Auto Bolt was an electric dead bolt door lock system used in conjunction with the stock door locks. I wired mine to engage and disengage with the aftermarket alarm system DIY installed. These are useful to me because they prevent entry into my rear cargo area. They cannot be defeated when engaged. As I keep so many tools and supplies in the rear these are pretty much imperative.

They are NOT any sort of starter or fuel pump disabling devices. Over on SMB there is frequent talk of Ravelco devices that can be configured to manually disable one or two circuits by simply removing a "cap" that is called a key. I have a few I'll be installing on my own vans but I found them outside the restrictive and over-priced "new" network of the manufacturer. Mine will be installed in a semi-stealthy location to hopefully further frustrate thieves from driving away.

Once upon a time new Ravelco's could be found all over eBay but the company complained they were counterfeit (and they were NOT) but eBay relented and removed all listings with that name as part of the listing. I bought several from a seller who told me a month or more he had one left---not sure if that's still the case. PM me for the seller's ID if you are interested---less than $100 from him. Ravelco charges upwards of $500 for a so-called "factory installation". They DO NOT actually train anyone, you just need enough money to buy in to become a reseller, little to no technical qualifications required.

GPS units are all well and good but they don't prevent a stolen vehicle. I'd not want anything cheap and electronic disabling a critical circuit unless I did the installation myself and built-in a way to quickly undo its lock out feature.

Good enough but Coolfeet and I are kinda friends from another forum already so he's got first dibs if he wants it. I'll contact him to check and if not I'd be glad to pass the info along to anyone interested.

Coolfeet's mail box is full so it might be a day or two. Sorry to keep ya hangin'

Buddy of mine used a regular 12v relay for a kill switch.

He spliced the starter wire from the ignition to the starter then connected each each end to #30 and #87 on the relay.
He then connected a wire from his parking brake light and connected it to #86 (which provided 12v power when depressed)
The wire to #30 is Ground.

So to start the motor, the parking brake pedal (that provides 12v) must be depressed.

Just thought I'd share.

JWA no problem no hurry. If he isn't interested let me know. I remember reading about those prob 5 yrs ago or longer. Was considering for a Pete that I only keep liability on. Had forgotten all about it until reading your post.

Well as it turns out the eBay seller replied and his remaining new Ravelco has already been sold. Sorry to give any false hopes.
