I have 1998 F150 has 305,000 miles on it and its my everyday car runs over a 105 miles a day. I have no oil leak not even a drop however it does burn oil but does not smoke I say about 3 quarts a month. I have been thinking about changing the engine and keeping it as my everyday use . My question how many more miles can I get out of it or should I just wait until she breaks down or change out engine and trany now. Its has the winsdor 4.6 engine Also I will be changing the transmission as I never change transmission fluid!!
It would appear your driving about 2000 miles a month.
Three quarts is getting up there but not excessive yet for the mileage age.
I would ride it out longer while you locate replacements and decide what to do when the time comes.
Nice to be able to plan ahead instead of getting into a Chinese fire drill on an emergency basis.
Try a different oil with extra gasket and seal conditioner in it's formulation.
The motor may be seeping such that you have not noticed it. This oil may help consumption issues after some time to work..
Good luck.
If you rebuild, the truck will be setting for a couple weeks minimum, possibly more if your boreing the block and getting pistons. It would be faster to get a different motor/ transmission setup and have it ready to install. Plan ahead as Bluegrass said and do it in a long weekend.
