Buying my first ford Diesel, need advice..

Hello!
I'm new to the forum and have a question for the seasoned F350 owners on here.
I've been driving a 2001 Dodge Ram Cummins 2500 for last seven years. I recently sold the Dodge and have decided to give the Ford F350 SD a go.
I have been researching all models of the F350 from 2003 to present. While they all seem to have their pros and cons, I've narrowed my search to either a well kept low miles 2006 Lariat (pre DPS filter) 40k miles for $25k, a 2010 Lariat w 2k miles for $40k or pull the trigger on a new 2012 Lariat w Scorpion for $51k after Ford and dealer rebates.
I am looking for opinions own which truck you guys think is the best truck of the three.
I pull a 25ft bumper pull travel trailer and an 8x12 raft trailer, vehicle will be used mostly as weekend recreation vehicle.
Thanks in advance for any input.

I have the 2006 your interested in and have 110K miles on it. SO far it has been pretty reliable but recently I've had to replace the fuel pressure sending unit and turbo.
If it was me I would get the 2010 as I don't know what the scorpion is...

I would go with the 2012 Lariat. I bought a used F450 Lariat and I am more than pleased with it. I don't know what the scorpion is either.

Scorpion is the early code name for the 6.7 powerstroke

6.0's can be plenty reliable, if taken care of, and deleted.
I'd own one.

6.4's seem to have less problems, but without a tuner, mileage sucks.
Most power potential on stock internals.

6.7's run really nice stock, can handle nice tunes well, but also require DEF, and obviously the most complex systems out of any of them.

If I had to keep it stock, I'd go 6.7.

6.7 is not proven to be reliable yet so I'd have trouble spending that much on one! Also, if you work on your own trucks, take a good look in the engine compartment in a scorpion truck, I can take the valve covers off my 7.3 in 1 hour, but I can't even see the valve covers in a 6.7! I guess I'm just partial to the simplicity of the HEUI system in my 7.3 and the thousands of dollars worth of labor it has saved me by doing my own repair work, and no EGR or DPF in sight. Of course a 6.7 makes me look really slow!

I think it really depends on what your expectations are for your new truck, and what you plan to do with it. If you don't mind working on one, or paying to have it worked on, the 6.0 platform can be a great truck with some modifications and tuning. Plus there are lots of them out there to choose from. There are allot of 6.4 out there making lots of power, plus the interiors are way upgraded over the 2007 style. But you may end up working on it too. If you just want one to drive with a warranty, then you could go with the 6.7. Most owners rave about them. Either way you go, I'm sure you will love your new to you Ford.

I would definitely with the 6.7. You are going to be spending money you might as well get the latest and greatest. The 6.7 has been out for 3 years with minimal problems, so I would say that it has a proven track record that it has been out. I just bought one, after test driving a 6.0, a 6.4, and can say that it's a much better ride with SO MUCH more power. Just my input, good luck on your truck purchase.

It all depends on what you want.

If power is what your after- for cheap, the answer is a 6.4..... sure only 350 stock, but the fuel system is capable of +350 tunes compared to the 6.7's 150+ tunes.
Plus a numbeer of people have speculated that 6.4 internals are capable of much more then 6.7 engines.

6.0's are the last available trucks with minimal emissions systems and hydraulic injectors.

6.7's are all under warranty.
