Well, our mechanic found the problem. It was a blown freeze plug in one of the brand new ported and polished heads

You guys are asking me questions I can't answer at this time. I am getting 2nd hand info from my daughter-in-law who is pretty bright, and somewhat knowledgeable in car mechanics. Her dad raced Nascar in the 70/80s and also owned a shop for years. I did not think there were freeze plugs in the heads either, but I have been wrong before.
I know the mechanic who is a close family friend, but I am not going to get myself personally involved at this point, since this situation has been very stressful on him also. He is eating all of the extra labor, even though at this time we do not think it was his fault.
I just picked up my son's truck and it is running fine now with new stock heads. The shop sent the bad heads back to the so called reputable supplier....BIG mistake. They said that now they have the heads, the shop could not prove that the problem was them, so they are not going to even replace them.
The above wording was from the shop owner's dad who was helping, so I don't know how accurate it is and I don't know if they are going to send back the defective heads or not.
The shop owner said it was the most expensive loss he has ever incurred
Thanks to everyone for trying to help.
And a big thanks to Blade35 for posting the pics and confirming freeze plugs are in 6.0 heads. It was new to me, too!

That's a hard lesson to swallow. If your son was talking to an attorney, they should have told them NOT to send those heads back. I don't get it, the supplier already said that they wouldn't cover the costs. Why did they get them back? I know you can't answer that, just thinking out loud here.
