Dave's (hav24wheel) Excursion mods.

Got this last year in November, this the mods I've done since than.

I decided to start anew thread just for my Ex, vs having mods scattered throughout the forum. First of all, here it is when I first got it.



Next up was a new y pipe and exhaust.









I used a flow pro 4 inch diesel kit

Next up was getting it off the bumpstops. Front I used a add-a-leaf out of a 94 F-350 I parted out.





The rear I used the factory block out of the same F-350.


That netted a 1.5 inch lift front and rear.

New stance.


My auto hubs stopped working proper, so I picked some Warn hubs and installed them.

Unhooked and capped the vac lines.

I decided I needed to have my fog lights on with my high beam headlights. Pulled the fuse panel down. Found the ground wire for the fog light relay. It's a green wire with a black stripe. Add a chunk of wire to it and ground it out.

Also add in a brake controller.

Welded a pair of nuts together, welded them to the top of the receiver hitch and put a bolt through the bumper into the nuts. I figure it adds a bit of strength to the hitch.


Next up is the weatherstrip mod
I used the vice to hold it all as I did it all by myself. Not all that easy, have to work fast. It made a big difference. In the doors. I had a friend help me do the big seal around the rear door. That took alot of lube and pulling.


Added a external trans filter




Next up, pull all the tires and wheels off.


Strip the clear coat off with Aircraft remover.


Scuff them up with a wire wheel.


Self etching primer.


Black wheel paint.


Painted the lockouts and center caps too

Found some bad news.



Got the fix right here.


Broke alot of studs.






Managed to get all but one of the ones that stuck above the surface of the head with a vice grips.

All but one of the rest came out by welding a nut to them.



The last one I had major issues with came out after I drilled a hole in it, than welded the hole shut, and than welded a nut to it. Tapped on it with a hammer, sprayed with penetrating oil, turned it tight a bit, than loose, back and forth untell it came out easy.



I put te headers in through the wheel wells. The bottom holes in the flanges where slotted so all the bottom bolts and the gasket hung on the heads before putting the headers on.







On this y pipe I ended up cutting the tab off that was suppose to bolt to the bell housing.


Than to make it fit my diesel exhaust.

Had also added a resonator to the exhaust.


Later down the road I had to weld the flanges to the y pipe and ditch the springs.

My new gears are 10.25 gear instead of 10.5 gears. Only difference is the bearing and race at the head of the pinion. The 10.25 one is thicker.

And they are in. But not for the final time. I ended up pullin them and adding a little shim to the pinion bearing.

Next up is a $65 eBay CAI with a K&N filter and pre filter.


Hack out part of rad support for better air to the filter.



Add zip ties to hold some stuff in place.

Than I started on some rear spring mods. Nabbed some parts of the rear springs off my 86 F-250 pickup box trailer.



The stuff I took off the ex next to the stuff to replace it.




Had to pull the F-350 block and put the stock Ex block back in.



Lift up the front in prep for shackles.


Installed.


But sway bar way to close to springs.





So took the sway bar bracket out of the frame, bolted it to the bottom, made a chunk of metal to bolt to the frame and the sway bar bracket.



Here's the finished install.



But the trac bar is now too short.


Cut, add in 5/16 long, 3/4 OD rod, weld it up, grind it smooth and sleeve with a schedule 80 pipe, paint and install.



New stance.


It sits about 3-4 inches higher than when I got it.

I know I forgot pics of two mods for sure, the tow mirrors, and digital voltage gauge, but I think that's all I forgot.

What kind/thickness did you do for the weatherstrip mod?

I just have a little 110v wire, and a 220v stick here at the house. I use the big 220v wire feed at work alot of times too.

I have a 220v/440v here at the house, just missing 2 cables. don't want to spend the money to complete it when I can buy a complete 110v for the same price new


how is the finish on those rims holding?

Them claps are so much nicer than the U bolt style. Can actually take the exhaust apart without messing stuff up

Next mod.

Don't mind the stains on the floor mat. That's a cargo area, it's suppose to look like that. Vinyl floor is on the "to do" list

My current tires and wheels are being sold to offset cost. Tires are already spoken for, should have listed them for more, because I've got alot of calls on them. Lol.
