Unhappy 1994 Explore turns off

I have a 1994 Ford Explore (SUV). I few months ago, after driving the vehicle for a few hours, the explore had problems turning back on after I turned I it off. The only thing it would do is crank. Last week it got worst. It turned off on me on a traffic light and again it took a few minutes to turn back on. I change the fuel filter this weekend. Boy, was it clogged up. I was hoping this will take care of the problem. It happen again yesterday? Question... Could it be the fuel pump? Maybe the clogged filter created so much strain on the pump that it damaged it?

Any Suggestions...

It could be the pump; a clogged filter is a common cause of fuel pump failure. Have someone listen to the gas tank when you turn to key on and make sure you can hear the fuel pump come on. If you can't hear the pump come on, make sure it isn't an electrical fault in the fuel pump circuit before assuming the pump is bad. If you do hear the pump come on, put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if the fuel pressure is where it should be.
Also, as with any other no start, make sure the spark plugs have spark.

I'd consider replacing the EEC (first) and fuel pump (second)relays; they're not very expensive. I had the EEC relay cause the no start problem long ago.

That's a good point. If it turns out the fuel pump isn't operational, make sure it isn't the relays before going to the expense and trouble of replacing the pump.

I had the same problem in my 91' once. It shut off on in traffic sometimes, and wouldn't start again after I'd go somewhere. It started just fine when it was cold. Turned out to be the fuel pump relay was sticking when it heated up.

Same here on the fuel pump relay. It started to have intermittent problems with heat build up. Cost less than $50.00 to have replaced.
