DON'T try using a drill to drill holes thru it, the threads will catch on the drill and produce a run in the carpet ruining it. If you need a hole for a screw or something, peel the carpet back, drill the hole in the metal, put the carpet back and use an ice pick or awl to put the hole thru the carpet. If you need a larger hole for a bolt or ? cut an X with a razor knife or melt the hole in the carpet with a hot rod or slightly smaller bolt. Be careful you don't drop the hot tool onto the carpet! If you have to cut a slit to fit the carpet around something like the pedals or steering column, run a bead of hot glue or silicone glue along the edges of the slit on the back to keep it from fraying.. Do get it along the edges of the backing, but keep the glue off the front side (if you use silicone glue, let it cure overnight before handling!). For a very clean install make aluminum bezels out of 1/8 or 1/4 aluminum plate to cover the edges of openings. Saw them out with metal cutting blade in a bandsaw or saber saw, drill and countersink attachment holes for metal screws. file and/or sand edges true and round over edges with wet or dry sandpaper from 100 grit, to 220, 400, 600 grit used dry. Sand the face with the 400 or 600 on a block all in one direction for a brushed finish.
Thanks axracer, i did reada post from you about a hot iron to burn a small hole, i got all that, , what the best way to glue it in place, , 3m spray or just attach it with alum trim along the edges?
Ok thanks guys, , the carpet i got was half carpet it covers the front with side wings, ,, i can get my hands on some SS i can make some trip out of that, ,, i need to figure out what to do under the seat, ,i would like to maybe replace the seat 1 day with somethimg else, dont know what, or what will fit, i been doing some research, , cant find much, ,,
Thanks guys
I agree with not gluing. I'd fill any floor depressions with cut to fit pieces of 1/4" closed cell foam such as that sold folded or rolled for use under vinyl or aluminum siding, taped in place with aluminum foil duct tape (NOT the typical cloth or plastic duck tape, the right stuff is actual aluminum foil with a peel off paper backing.. You can find it in the heating and cooling department at your local DIY store.)
