I just purchased my first ford and now going through my first problem. I have a 2008 f350 6.4. I was on a road trip and my computer popped a "empty water fuel separator" not knowing what that was I was going to wait until I got home to research it, but it died 70 miles from home. I purchased a decoder and have the following codes up.
P2269- water in fuel
P0087- fuel rail pressure to low
P2291- injector control pressure to low.
P1260- theft detected engine disabled
P115a I think, low fuel level forced limited power.
I did not run out of fuel I have 3/4 of a tank now.
I have changed both fuel filters and found no metal.
Unplugged the batteries for 5 min and hooked them back up.
Lastly, I pushed the fuel reset button, the one on the passenger side dash.
I have tried to talk with my ford dealer here in Fairbanks but all I get out of them is its a fuel issue, I need to bring it to them and it could cost 8-9 thousand dollars to repair.
I am thinking now it may be the high pressure fuel pump or the one underneath the drivers side cab (lowSo what kind of diet do u go by. Do u get up training for your event? pressure fuel pump??)
Thank you for your help in getting me to the next step!
Brian
there is a fuel water seperator that is on your truck below I believe its on the drivers side below the drivers door just a little fwd.. there are tons of youtube videos that cover how to drain it.. that is your problem.. it is full and not allowing fuel to pass by.. its doing its job.. its a good thing.. just needs to be drained.. plus i see your in AK.. I was stationed at Eielson AFB and thats beautiful land out there.. Its also even in the summer cool some nights so you have alot of condensation building in your tank and lines more so then others in the lower 48.. keep top maintenance on it and you will be good.. drain your fuel water seperator.. it should fix it
Sounds like you may have a plugged fuel filter or to much water in your fuel....the shop is giving you the "worst case" i think.
Did you drain the water separator yet? I would drain it and try to start the truck. If your a handy guy and able to do your repairs you could also change the fuel filters...both of these things are cheap to do yourself and wouldn't hurt anyways.
Thanks for the quick reply! Sorry I did forget to mention that I did drain the water from the separator, one time. Should I do it more than once? I let it drain until it stopped flowing and then cycled the truck buy turning the key forward and back off again 6 times. I saw that in a YouTube. I also changed both fuel filters.
Hey big104 did u use any fuel additive for the condastation or fuel jelling problems?
How long we're you up here for?
Howdy Brian and welcome to the forum, not a bad place to hang out when you have time.
You may want to go over to this sub-forum which is related to the 6.4 diesel rather than a general forum. Not that you won't get answers here, but they may tend to be more of a generalization of answers.
If you have changed the filters and cycled the key 6 times as you said, I would try cycling the key more to allow the filters to fill full. If I recall correct it can take a while to get the line purged of air and fuel delivered.
Will the truck run at all, have you deleted the codes and then tried. Sounds like you might have got a bad bunch of fuel, drain the separator into a clean glass jar and see if there is any water in the bottom of the jar. If not and your light is still on the lower filter housing may be gummed up with crap or your sensor might be bad.
You can take the upper filter cap off and have someone turn the key on and off to see if your getting fuel from the low pressure pump.
i was up there for three years FairBanksFarmer and loved every minute of it all.. I of course had all the heaters available on the block tranny oil and what not.. i had oil and coolant heater cerculating pumps going when it was plugged in.. And yes I used the red bottles of heat at EVERY fill up.. it helped alot.. but I also had a auto start installed. it would read the ambiant temp and not let the truck temp drop below 20 degrees.. i would start, warm up then shut off.. it was a great investment and it saved my truck many times.. and you can turn it off when you have it plugged in.. Hope you get the problem fixed.. and ill be up there again one day..
