I hear the hip kids say I'm now "rolling coal" or something:
And where else to come but to the web's unofficial ford enthusiast resource for answers to the all-too-common "new owner/now what?" questions:
Picked it up last night, it's an '11 Lariat/Fx4, PO lifted/leveled the front end, but now I almost detect a hint of reverse rake, how do y'all address that? Airbags?
Second- more power, without voiding the warranty- how? I read good things about the H&S tuner, but which one do I need? Or can I even touch 'em without voiding my warranty?
Third/lastly- any tips/tricks on quick technological upgrades/mods? I read about the homelink garage door opener visor upgrade from the '12+? trucks? Also looked into the Lockpick? to allow for DVD play while driving?
I've only got this mornings drive to work behind the wheel, wife drove it home from buying it last night, lol, and I'm sure I could eventually find answers to all these questions, but I'm impatient and a little stoked about the truck, it's the nicest vehicle by far I've ever owned
Air bags with a wireless controller if you have any money left. If you put any weight in the bed you will want the taller blocks in the rear that the F350 comes with or else your headlights will point up with the level kit. Check to see if PO did this. Cheaper start than the air bags.
X2 for H&S for power but if you have lots of warranty left just leave it stock. Plenty if stock power in these babies.
Have fun and start planning the upgrades. The truck looks great!!
An F250 is pretty close to "level" stock (although I think '13 and newer F250's are coming with the taller blocks stock). Putting a leveling kit on it will put reverse rake on it, like you see.
Fit the F350 rear blocks for a cheap/easy fix.
In my case, this has NOT been the case. My dealer has been in the shop and the service writer has said that provided their isn't evidence that the tuner caused the issue or been related, the warranty is not void. They have told me they want to replace the oil pan and seal on my truck because it has a plastic one and they notice weepage on every oil change. I won't do it because I just haven't had the time to sit and wait, but I will soon. I'm sure the warranty is affected, but how much depends on many variables.
So the 350 block I'm looking for comes from the same yr model as my truck? Dually or SRW does it matter?
I'm fairly certain the PO didn't do anything to the rear, but I can't check right now, I just dropped it off at the tint shop to get the windows done. Opted for the ceramic shield for better heat rejection, it gets hot down here!
Oh and about the tuner- I'm in the process of purchasing an extended 3/36 full warranty on the truck, powertrains still in effect but I'm trying to cover everything else so I can have some worry-free years ahead of me. If I were to need to bring in the truck for something, could I simply remove the tuner to avoid any excuses on the dealer's part? I'm not too sold on their business practices, and would rather not give them any cockamamie ammo to use against me....
They will know the truck has been tuned if they plug it in and look for it. The evidence will be there. I'm told the dates the PCM and BCM are flashed are stored no matter what. They may not know what was changed exactly (I doubt that too), but they will know the stock firmware was overwritten and that is grounds for them to probe further. I don't beleive they will automatically deny the warranty, but it gives them solid ground.
I sure as heck wouldn't purchase an extended warranty on a truck I was going to tune let alone from a dealer that I wasn't completely sure of. There would have to be a trusting relationship or I'd just buy from Ford.
Thanks Savage, that info helps me make my decision.
I asked from the standpoint of not knowing how the Ford's ECM recorded any changes to the tune. We knew that my boss' Duramax ECM would tick a checksum or something, to indicate changes were made to something, just weren't sure if the Ford did or not.
I'll leave it alone, not worth the hassle. I bought it from an individual, saved me about $6k vs. what the local dealers were asking for "similar" trucks.

Sorry, should have clarified, it will void your powertrain warranty. Meaning that if you have engine issues/gearbox issues/axle issues, if they remotely think that it could have been the result of the tuner, they will not warrant it.

I still don't agree with you, but that's allowed. I'll judge by my experiences
