We replaced the climate control panel, allowing us to turn the **** to hot now. It gets warm but doesn't fully get hot. We replaced the thermostat tonight, warmer but defrost blows cool still. Both hoses to heater core are burning hot. We also noticed that it didn't seem to suck the water out of the resovoiur(sp?) So what am I looking to fix now? Water pump maybe?
Both hoses will not get hot if the pump doesn't work. The engine will overheat if the pump doesn't work. I would not bet on a bad pump.
There is a flap or door built into the heater plenum {chamber} that directs air to the A/C evaporator or to the heater core. If it doesn't move far enough in the latter direction, you won't get the air going past the heater core, and it won't be heated.
The flap is controlled by the temperature **** on a manually controlled HVAC system. I believe there is a stepper motor that does the physical movement of the door, the "blend door". The may be an obstruction, or the mechanism may be broken. Earlier, different models had problems with the plastic hinge pin the door pivoted on breaking. I do not know if this series has that problem.
I think I would remove or swing out of the way, the glovebox, and watch the mechanism with a good light, while moving the control back and forth from warm to cool and back. You should see something move, and may be able to see something broken. Or, remove the motor, and check it and the remaining parts for freedom of motion.
