Sealed or greasable axle u-joints? What are your opinions?
4wd only gets used in snow and a few other times during the year when 2wd just isn't enough.
I haven't checked prices yet. If prices are close, I will probably go with sealed. Sealed joints are stronger, correct?
IMHO, youre wasting your time with anything but sealed spicers for the street or light off road. it is no coincidence that they are what the axle comes with from the factory. you will not find a joint that lasts longer under normal conditions.
that said, i use greasables (spicers where possible, ive tapped caps of sealed spicers as well) where i can for my f2 (only sealed spicers on my street truck), that pushes mud, water, and dust more than it sees pavement. no joint lasts long under those conditions (not many miles), but it makes me feel better to push out the water and grime after each run. sometimes water comes out, sometimes it doesn't. . .sealed spicers do keep the water out under these conditions, but not forever. the grime that is pushed up against the seals + inherent movement of a u-joint is a formula for seal failure.
