Need advice tow bar.
At the end of this year I have to tow a 2000 ford excursion from Muskogee Ok to Fargo Nd. I been getting my truck in tip top shape the last few weaks.
I was planing on tow baring the truck up there. (I have tow barred 2 trucks up there) The biggest 83 chevy 3/4 ton (That was load the junk in the back)
I was thinking that my tow bar was rated for 9100 pounds and I know the excursion is 8400 pounds but I found out the tow bar is only rated for 5000 pounds.
Needless to say I have been lucky because the 3/4 ton pass that.
Iv been looking for a stronger tow bar but the ones that are close are up around 1000$ - I dont have. This truck is a gift for some one and it must get to ND.
Can some one run ideas threw my head on how i can move this thing???
SAFELY!!!
Uhaul doesn't have a trailer big enf.
I just need some ideas thrown at me.
I could rent a flat bed but that could cost dearly. Anyone got ideas on going rates?
I thought about trying to run the back roads doing 55 at max with a breaking assist / break controller
My truck has a trailer break control system ready to go so I guess i would just have to get the unit for the trailer.
Any ideas?
A used car trailer is a good idea.
If you could drive the Excursion and fly home, that would be a good idea too. I don't know if Allegiant Air flies in to any airport near you, but they fly out of Both Fargo and Bismarck. They are cheap if you can book your flight in advance.
EDIT--
Just thought about this a bit... You said this is a "gift"? I'm not trying to be nosy, but if this is for a charity or church or something, now would be a good time to mention it. You might (HINT, HINT) get some people to help you out (HINT, HINT) and make things easier for you? If it isn't, then no need to give any details you don't wish to.
It just made me wonder is all.

Im thinking about buying a stronger tow bar and using some square tubing and reinforcing it like crazy.
