Truck in question: 01 F550 Crew Cab 4WD manual tranny
Truck started acting this way last year, periodically cranked to run it. Due to lack of money and time, nothing was really done. Truck decides after two new batteries a week ago to start running smoothly, our so we thought. Usually after it's at operating temp, it starts to lose power. Stupid to a high speed of 40 mph and gets worse if going up incline. No CE light, but had codes pulled that stated something about 3 & 8 injectors. Runs smoothly at start up, no knocking or bad vibrating at idle. CPS was replaced under recall in 08 or 09. Fuel filter recently replaced, probably due for oil change. Ideas?
Thanks, Blood's Wifey
My guess is fuel starvation due to plugged screens in the mixing chamber in the tank.
The way to fix it is to do the Hutch mod http://www.guzzle7pt3.com/hutch.php
Also blue smoke usually means burning oil (usually from a leaking turbo seal or clogged crank case vent). White smoke is generally either unburnt fuel or steam from water/coolant. Black smoke indicates poorly burnt fuel due to bad fuel/air ratio.
If you can temp plumb a fuel psi gauge in, you can drive it around and see what the fuel psi is when its acting up. If you have access to the gauges, then u can know for sure.
With it being an F550, i would say it prob has steel tank. They are notorious for the liner to delaminate on them and causing your symptoms. You may have to replace the tank or have it cleaned and relined. I am not sure about Pike County but I know there is a place in Lawrenceville that can reline it.
