Ok I hope this link works. I joined about 2 months ago and still learning how to use this site. As of yet I have not figured out how to post pictures as an attachment. So this should go to photo bucket. Anyway there is a wireing harness that runs along the left valve cover going up to the dist, coil, water temp sender and oil sender. That plugs into what I believe you showed in your pictures this morning. The one plug has nothing in it. The electronic module is over on the left fender and plugs in there. Hope this helps some. Looks like it could be factory then. Count me as confused.

Thanks for the pics IHC. That looks a lot more like my set-up. Still leaves me somewhat confused though. Not sure where my wires that are supposed to run to the horseshoe are. I also don't have the oher half of that flat 3 prong connector that you seem to have both parts of. I'll keep digging and keep you all posted

I will try and see if I can tell what circuits are in those connectors for you. Maybe if real lucky I can get a part number off the harness that is on the motor for you. This is a very original truck except for what 5 finger JOE took!

Hey Bowtie,
have you traced these wires, the ones on both the harness coming out your driver's side and plugged into your module, and the "extra" one further over? If you look at your pic of the wires coming out of your ignition module, basically instead of going back through your firewall (which they appear to do), the purple, black and orange ones should go to the purple, black and orange on your distributor. That's done with a section of harness, female plugs on each end, that go between the module and the distributor. The green wire that also goes back through the firewall with that bundle should go over to the distributor. It's possible that those wires now, for some reason, go back through the firewall and are spliced to that other stray harness that comes out the firewall further over. In any case, what I would do is trace the wires on both these harnesses, hook them up properly as I described, and try it. You never know, it might work fine. Worth a try?

For testing you wouldn't need the harness I referred to if you don't have it. You could just strip of a little of the coating and run jumper wires to the dist and the coil.

I'll dig into it a little more this weekend. I haven't dove in head-first and looked under the dash yet. The interior of the truck is still a little grungy from the previous owner who was one of my co-worker's brother, that just died. After seeing the truck and his house, it is safe to say he could have been on an episode of Hoarders:Buried Alive.

Had a chance to look at that harness this afternoon. It is a Ford harness but I could not make out the part number, sorry. There are 7 wires in that harness 2 that go to the coil horse shoe, 3 to the dist, 1 to water temp sender, and the other to oil pressure sender. This truck has gauges not sure it that would make a difference or not but I would think the senders would have been installed in the same location on the motor no matter if it had lights or gauges.

Bowtie I was reading your first few post again. Looking at some of your pictures and my truck it looks to me in post 13 that the harness is over on the right side of the motor. Which is how it comes out of my firewall also. On my truck they then passed it back over to left side of motor going through the plastic channel at the top of the firewall. Doing that leaves a pig tail just about 4 inches long. At that point the wiring harness that runs along the valve cover would plug into it. Pretty sure that is what you are missing and that would explain why you do not have the horse shoe connector as your missing that complete harness. (The harness that is running along the valve cover on my engine.)

IHC: just so I understand what you are saying, do you have just the one harness coming out your firewall, about the same location as the one bow tie has, the one you describe as being over on the right side of motor?

By the way, I think you might be onto something re that harness. If it connects to the three wires that go to the distributor and the one that goes to the coil then it may be that the harness that runs back through the firewall from bowties module connects to that harness that comes out the firewall further over to the right side. So, does the harness with the black, purple, orange, and green wires go from module back through the firewall on the drivers side, as bowties do? If so, you may be right that all he is missing is the harness that goes between the one further over and the dist/coil.

Yes I think that is correct. On mine the module is on the left fender apron. Wires go into the passenger compartment at that point. They come back out at a point over on the passenger side just a few inches to the right of the heater box. About in line with the right valve cover. Then they are routed through the plastic channel that you can see in the pictures at the top of the firewall just below the hood line to the left side of the motor to the left valve cover area. At that point it plugs into this harness that runs along the left valve cover. So it looks to me like all that he is missing is the wiring harness that is on the motor. In that harness is also the wires for water-oil senders. It explains why he does not have the horse shoe coil connector and why what he has now will plug into the dist. They went with matching connectors at both ends of the harness. I think Ford must have gotten a real deal on wire! I was just to the salvage yard looking for the cab harness for mine as the thieves cut the fuse block out of mine. 1975 is a strange year as I could not find anything that matched what I had so I ended up getting a 1973 harness as the fuse block was a match and then cutting that out and reinstalling it into my harness. But to recap for Bowties issue yes I am very certain all he is missing is an engine harness to plug into what is there in his truck.

That makes sense. Looks like I'll prob cut those connectors off and splice everything together, I guess. Unless anybody has any idea where to locate a harness. None of the junkyards around me has any trucks older than early 80's.
