....well, i shot from the hip again. Got my new/used axle from a 04 f350 SRW, and unfortunetly it came with a "disk" yoke to driveshaft connection. Not knowing, i spun the nut off to remove yoke and did so with my used one, to swap them. Here's the fun, not knowing about proper preload..etc, i just impacted the damn thing on.
Its not leaking ,but i know its not "set" correctly. Should i chance driving it to get it fixed correctly or have it trailered to shop?
timmy, I thought the same when my pinion seal was leaking being the **** person I am about procedure ect I took it to my buddy who runs a mechanical shop ( assuming that he would check preload, backlash ect ) he just took off and impacted it back on . now he is a very good tech and he told me it would be fine been three years now no problems . I say drive it just keep a eye on it make sure it doesn't loosen up. backlash that is.
thanks man...problen is, when i go to turn the yoke, it seems to be binding. Not the case when i bought it. . I just removed the yoke again, and seems to be "free". I'm not seeing this "crush sleeve" that keeps being mentioned. Also, tore the seal out, so theres another 20 buks .

You may want to check if the seals are different. I ran into this on an '02 F350 with the Dana 80. He was given the wrong seal for the round disc flange model. There was a difference in the rock shield and the seal bound against the yoke when tightened. You may have to get a seal for your year model to match your yoke.
$300.00....Roland, i'm thinking that "rock-shield" are different for yoke application. Just looked at the yoke that came with axle that i installed on my original, and its bound up. The yoke w/shield from original axle thats on the new axle, is "sloppy" to say the least. Wondering if the "width" is playin a role here....gonna swap them, AGAIN, and hope for the best....
