2002 F-350 problem.

It randomly happens Ill be sitting at a stop light and than accelerate and it revs hard and jerks. I think that the overdrive light comes on but not for sure as it happens rarely like twice a week. I took apart the column and taped the OD wires there to prevent the rub. I'm at a loss. Most of the time the truck is a beast and feels very strong but occasionally its like the something doesnt engage or it jerks hard. ANY ideas would be great.

Here is a picture of the beast because I think threads should have pictures!

Might be transmission related.
You will need to scan the truck for codes. A quality scan tool will be required. I don't think the generic code readers at the auto part stores will be able to read diesel specific or transmission codes.

tranny fluid looks to be good. This transmission only has about 20k miles on it. Im replacing the CPS tomorrow. What I find really odd is it wont do it for days and than one stop and there it goes. it will rev high than shift hard.

A worn and sticky line-pressure modulator valve can cause erratic shift points.

Sonnax has a fix for that condition with their part number 96948-01K.

The Sonnax valve is a replacement for a factory valve that gets worn and has some leakage, which allows somewhat unpredictable shift points, though not drastic. The older the trans, the more unpredictable. At any rate, the shifts don't become WILDLY unpredictable, but the Sonnax valve makes they very stable.

I installed one about nine years ago, and my trans shifts yet today like it should have from the factory.

The valve kit is pretty cheap if you look around. Get the accumulator spring kit while you're at it.

The Tricumulator (three accumulators) springs raise the regulated line pressure for the three shifts to give them a much more positive feel.

PM me if you want anything further on it.

Yup. Read it this morning.

As I said, the Sonnax kit is relatively cheap (about $40), and may cure the shift irregularity your trans has.

If you decide to go that route, give me a shout for a lot of additional tips.

My truck started doing this. Took it to two different shops to find no codes and all fluids were good. Then one day the trans temp went to around 275. Took it back to the trans shop pulled a code. Can not remember what code now. Come to find out my torque converter disk came apart and went into the transmission and cooler. Result new transmission. Hope this is not your problem. But thought I would share.
