I was trying to pull up the 2.3l timing belt in the sticky tutorial to try to walk my buddy through the process as hes new to the ranger world and wants to learn to work on his own truck with a little guidance and it seems that the link doesn't work? we clicked on it and it took us to some aol lifestream login page. Is this right? or are we crazy?
No, you are not crazy. It has been gone for a couple years. I have offered to send them a .DOC file I have in other posts, but have been ignored. Maybe it is a PDF.
Try rangerstation.com for rangerpowersports.com or fordforums.com or therangerstation.com or explorerforum.com as one of them should have the steps.
FWIW, the job changes as the ignition system changes. Starting with a distributor, and going to dual spark and ??? I don't remember.

Thank you sir. Thats pretty much what hes looking for. Ive tried explaining it to him but he said he would like something to look at while hes doing it. Told him i could give him a hand but he wants to do it himself.
I was looking for some help with same subject,, but its different for my year.
I've got a 92 2.3L California truck:
1. doesn't have a "timed" oil pump gear because it uses a crank trigger..if I'm naming that correctly for this trucks source of info when to fire spark plug
2. there's no hard to get off crank pulley, it just unbolts with 4 small fasteners, but it bolts to the "crank trigger"..which I guess is swedged on the end of the crank just like your crank pulley..or similar
3. As I read my Chilton 83-94 repair manual it doesn't really give me the answers I need when trying to replace the timing belt..Or it doesn't mention removing the crank trigger anyway..but the belt won't come off with the tight fitting trigger..am I missing something?
Have you heard of anyone with a truck like mine that succeeded. Hate to "guess" on removing the crank trigger etc..already kinda goofed up the belt tensioning spring device..not sure how to get it reinstalled. All kinda fell off when I was trying to untension the existing belt.
