locating a Driveline problem

7.3 6 speed manual 4x4 f250
Drilveline jumping over somewhere... noticed it was getting quite a bit of backlash (slop) in the driveline until it slipped over like a loose chain on a bike ...cant go more than 30mph in any gear without it jumping over.....wheres the first place to look......

Does the transfer case drive straight through...Im thinking the problem is in the there
I felt the outside when it happened and it was quite a bit hotter than the gearbox
