I've read all the posts about hot doghouses (that I have had an issue with on this E350 motor home from day 1) and I've read all the fixes BUT....
My problem went from overly warm to the doghouse surface temp so hot the plastic was pliable in just minutes. Like everyone, down by the gas pedal. There is no carpet on the doghouse. What was also disconceting was black smoke in the cab when the A/C was flipped on for a second or two.
Doghouse hits extreme temperature after only minutes idling. Motor runs normally. Normal has always been loud. Over 30 mph smoke is visable coming out from the undercarriage. All gauges normal, all fluids ok, oil clean, tranny fluid pink, rad full and lime green, no visible signs of heat damage viewed from underneath. No obvious holes in heat shield. Could there be one? Or do I have a problem (manifold?) I have not found in the forums?
"Doghouse hits extreme temperature...smoke in the cab...always been loud" -smells like big exhaust leak; bad exhaust gasket, bad manifold, or bad head pipe?

This. Sounds like you have exhaust blowing against the doghouse. This could be dangerous.
