BUY THE TURBO! If no for any reason other than you want it, unless you can think of something else you'd rather have. Never know it might just work better than the turbo you have.

It's bought! Here's the thing, my wife knows I'm having an issue and already mentioned it. What do ya do, if you "need" it, you gotta get it... right! If it becomes an upgrade, not so easy to ask forgiveness! Sure, I have a list of things I want to buy, but right now I can almost justify the turbo!
You asked about other things to do when the turbo gets pulled: one thing I can think of off the top is replace the oil feed/return lines with latest Ford, if you haven't already. At a minimum replace the flex line -- they can be a failure point... I think both upgraded lines would end up being larger for your MY...

Congrats on the turbo!!!
I ordered the upgraded drain tube, will have to order the the feed line. Anyone know the PN? Forgot to order the boots, am going to call now.
Thanks!
Steve
Called XDP and the turbo not in stock so cancelled and ordered from PDP, still only $1179. ordered IC boot kit for $179 and install kit. Hopefully will ship today.
Regarding the feed tube, weren't the flex tubes on the early models? It may have been changed when the PO had the BPD oil cooler/EGR etc. installed, not sure. I may just leave it until the dealer looks at it. I will try to look it up and get a cost, a BPD feed tube was kind of pricey, $115 I think.
You can pick up the upgraded '07 MY feed tube from any local Big truck repair/parts dealer....Intl PN 1845287C96 International part priced at approx $55 bucks

Thanks! I just replaced the fuel filters and oil to see if that might help my sometimes hard start condition. Loaded a tune back in (stock SCT) and it drove great but again, when I went WOT up a hill the turbo stuck, the VGT was 85. It came back but it obviously has an issue. I'm working on getting the custom Gearhead tunes from Matt to load. I am going to have him re-write the tunes for the turbo. I've had his tunes for 1 year and have never been able to get them to load. Can't wait for a new turbo and a good tune! Calling SCT now. Last I called they said to try to load the tunes to the dongle. Couldn't because the tunes were not written for the SN of dongle! Hope to get it worked out.
Hey Hink: Lookin' at your sig list, don't see the Blue Spring update -- have you done that? Just thot I'd mention it, you probably have...
I ordered that with the turbo drain last night! Something I've been wanting to do... or have done anyway! I'm going to have them put it in when they do the turbo. I have bad luck with fuel related mods. I did the regulated return mod to my 7.3 and was always fighting tiny fuel leaks! Never use braided stainless fuel line with AN fittings, it's a PITA! Well, I digress. Thanks for the suggestion on the blue spring.
I would also suggest that you get a single plain billet wheel for the Powermax.
I just put on on mine and it made a very nice improvement i the way it runs.
I got mine from MTW.

Funny you say that, Matt at Gearhead just emailed me my updated tunes about 10 minutes ago! I've thought about the wheel but read some things about the included wheel being balanced in the turbo and better suited for longevity, don't know if that's true or not. If I recall the wheels are rather pricey and I'm getting tapped out! Thanks!

Do you have a link to the wheel you got? How's the sound?
Thanks
I got it from Mad turbo works.
It does not sound much different than the stock powermax.
I think it was $260.
It just drives so much better with the billet wheel.
It brought the power down in the low to mid rpm's and got rid of the dead spot at about 45-50 mph.

Alright, I really hate this! Now I'm thinking about upgrading the compressor wheel. Do you know if he has them in stock? It's been awhile, what does it take to swap out the wheel?
I think he has them because mine shipped out quick.
It would only take about 10-15 min to swap it out.
All you need to do is pull that half of the turbo apart and change the wheel.
