Backlash

Im changing my gear ratio in my 87 f250 from 3.55 to 5.13. I Had to replaced the case to fit the new ring gear on the front. which is a IFS dana 44. All shims were replaced with new of equal thickness. All bearings and races were replaced. My question is on backlash. My backlash reading is .003 to 00.1. Not good manual spec is .005 to .009 If I remove .005 from the ring gear side and put it on the other side of the case. Will this incease my backlash by .005 or is there a formula for shiming backlash. I only want to do this one more time. the shims sit behind the bearings and dont press off very easily.

first of all why are you going to 5.13? This is pretty intense for such a small axle. the dana 44 will die. To be in a decent RPM range youll probably be running 40-44" tires. This is not good for the 44.

This truck is used strickly for competitive pulling. sled pulling. was thinking about swapping in a dana 60 But wanted to keep the IFS axle. I got the backlash set Thanks
