Ranger Trans Info needed
Question 1 I have no problem cruising thru the archives to find out bit of info I need on the shift problem but I need to know what Trans it has. It is a 4.0L with overdrive auto, what is the initals for this trans.
Question 2 I worked in a fleet with 120 Ford Vans, trucks, and cars from 1984 till 1997. We had no Rangers. Do they have a drain in the torque converter. Being out of it my knowledge is getting old. I plan on purchasing 15 quarts if you can dump the converter.
Question 3 If you have any idea on the harsh 1-2 upshift.
To a lesser degree it has a rough 2-1 down shift. Other than the 1-2 shift quality area the trans shift normal and runs fine
I plan to dump the ATF. A year of sitting can cause a lot of condensation then run it for a bit.

As for you harsh shifting, check to see that the Vacuum Modulator lines are not cracked, and are complete all the way to the manifold. The mod. should be on the top passenger side of the tranny. Let us know if it all works out.
