1. Not use the 3rd row set?
2. Have F/R fade but the rear is both 2nd and 3rd rows?
3. Have a extra processor/fader for 3rd?
4. Use the 3rd but not the second?
If you used all 6, how did you deal with time alignment?
Before I was amped I disconnected my 3rd row and used them with a line out converter to give signal to my subwoofers
The old school way that was good and all was to put your heart of sound and influence in your front stage...then merely add fill to the back channels. The problem with this idea in a vehicle that seats 8 or more is that home theater standards have turned Stereo imaging on its ear in the "Rolling entertainment universe". You CAN have a center channel driven sound and the remaining speakers suit as side and rear channels for the purpose of movie enjoyment. However, that set up while playing stereo dynamics(All of our music) it will not sound correct. Some people would say that you have to choose between one or the other:
I have gone with six coaxials speakers and have made the two rear channels a combined section. That way, my rear video can play in the rear alone, but can also serve as fill to movie-style audio when my wife wants to join in while we drive. I can also use fading to make the rear primary with effective digital manipulation in my head unit (Kenwood DNN990HD). I am not using a center channel, but I don't think CC is practical in a family vehicle, but with creativity.....
Time alignment would require digital processing(think mosconi, rockford, and audison) and is quite intense for some, but with a great installer/programmer or if you are proficient with that type of electronics and metering...can help greatly.
Enjoy the ride to always seeking better...its a disease!
I didn't have a vehicle long enough back then to worry about time alignment, everything was so close I never had rear speakers. I'm not worried about video - my ex doesn't have the built in one and the kids are old enough to earn enough money to buy their own ipad or laptop to play their own movies on for the long trips.
This is purely for me on the drive to/from work. I want my crystal clear distortion back (old school metal head too, love me the crunch of a good D chord on the ribs in the morning). But from time to time I drive with a ex full of boy scouts who like to jam too so didn't really want to drop the rear set.
I'll probably end up just making the two rear sets run in series and fade as the rear channel. less output, etc.
Now its on to figure out what speakers to use, used to run polk, quart and dynaudio for highs, rockford or Infinity Beta for subs.
Thanks
Mike
Some I am interested in investigating myself:
Sundown Audio
Audison
Massive Audio
Tantric Audio
Skar Audio
I wonder if some of the older stuff is still good too!
