KINDA NEED TO KEEP AUTOMATIC, BUT LOOKING INTO A STICK SHIFT AS WELL WITH AN OVER DRIVE...
Fast, cheap and easy would be an upgraded 400.
I always keep an eye out for any automotive 4BTs but, around here anyway, they are like hens teeth.
I definitely want to do a build with one though.
Pulled the 400 out of my old 79 bronco about 20 years ago and replaced it with a 460 of the same year. Lot's more power and even with the worst 4/bl holley ever made it still got about the same MPGs that the 400 got with the motorcraft 2/bl. Luckily i had ever thing i needed from a 79 f-150 super cab.
PM me if you decide to go 460.... I picked up swap plates (TransDapt 9433) complete with motor mounts for dirt cheap and will pass along the sweet deal.
There is people reporting about 26 mpg with a 4bt cummins so that's something to think about if you can find one cheap enough the change in fuel bill will pay for the motor quick lol
4Bt would be my first choice, but for way cheaper, you could do a 400 and add an OD trans. I've been thinking about adding a GM 700R4 (3.06 first gear, .70 OD) or a 4L80e. The adapter kit is like $700, but you can make that back in gas money very quickly.
For the love of god take off caps lock and use decent sentence structure.

I hear 20+ mpg from the CJ guys all the time but then they are the ones who are creating the 4BT shortage.
My number came from a guy on full size bronco forum. He was gettin about 26 with 3.55 gears and 36 inch tires.
I don't doubt that at all. My only contacts with this conversion are all CJ owners.
If I do happen across a good deal on a 4BT that is probably what I would put in too.
That is unless I find a screaming deal on a 77 and down decent Bronco.
For a full size pickup I think I would prefer a 6A or B, tall gears and an OD/UD.
300/I-6... Offy intake, 500 cfm 4-barrel, headers, and dual exhaust.
You said it's your daily driver now....we'll this is everything you'll need even if it's not your daily driver.
Then again, you can put in a small block, or a blown big block. You'll need to narrow down your long term plans with what you want to do so you can choose your engine more wisely.
