I picked up a set of fog lights Walmart just put on clearance and I want to hook them up as auxiliary reverse lights. I've found lots of write-ups on a number of sites including this one about how people have wired them in, but I haven't yet found any quite the way I'd like it done.
I want a 3-position switch:
On (wondering whether this should be keyed to prevent accidental battery drain)
Off
"Auto". (On when in reverse AND the parking lights are on; otherwise off.)
You could run one power wire from a relay to the fogs in the rear and have a SPDT switch trigger the relay. Get power from a reverse wire and keyed wire under the dash and run to the switch.
Normally the SPDT switch pins would be
Load 1 | Power source | Load 2
You could run it
Reverse Power | Relay Trigger | Keyed Power
That would give you
Auto | Off | On
To be safe you can put 1amp diodes in on both power lines to prevent back flow of current if you switched to fast.
