So ive asked this before but what headers fit a highboy? Summit has a few sets that claim they fit a highboy.
flowtechs
hedman
hooker http://www.summitracing.com/search/p...rder=Ascending
and then there is the mad dog headers
What headers actually fit a highboy 390fe? Id prefer a quality set and even ceramic coated.
I've had the experience with summits side bar narrowing my results down to the exact part that will fit and had stuff not fit haha that's why I question it. But I also want to know which one that summit carries would be the best? Or higher quality
Hookers and Hedmans would be higher quality than Flowtechs. Those should all be inside the frame rail full length headers. Every set of fender well exits I have seen online have specified.
Positives: Moves heat away from the motor/starter.
Negatives: You gotta cut your fenders and I personally think they look like crap. Tires may or may not rub depending on wheel width and amount of lift.
I am a fan of inside the frame headers, but a lot of people will adamantly push for you to get fender well exits.

I personally have liked the look of fender exit headers like grinner has from mad dog. But my concern with these is will they clear my borgeson steering shaft and will they be hit by my tires? I have 35x12.5 on wheels with a negative offset of about 4.3 inches I believe. And its at stock height.
I don't like inner fenders cuz of the frigin transfer case and all the goofy bends it takes to get around it. My exhaust exits before the rear tires so I was thinking fender exit was the way to go. Not totally sure yet. Price wise inner fender ceramic coated ones are cheaper then getting the mad dogs and then coating them.
Yea I talked to the guy at mad dog. He says he thinks the steering shaft is in the way -.- so I sent him some pics of what I have to deal with and I'm hopeing he can see if they will fit or since he makes them I don't see why he can't just adjust the driver side a little.
I just bought a set of block hugger ceramics from Sanderson Header (They have pictures of them mounted on thier web site) for my FE 428. I will post pictures soon.

I just installed a set of Hedman 89120 headers on my '76 F250 High Boy / 390. Drivers side was easy. Had to pull the clutch bracket and go in from right side of the front driveline.
One the passenger side, had to pull the motor mount, starter, and lift the engine a bit. Once in and not bolted down, wiggle the starter in and bolt it all up.
After getting it in, I took it down to an exhaust shop for dual 2.5" with crossover and flowmaster 40s with a behind the rear wheel exit.
Before I installed the headers/exhaust, it had manifolds and single 2 or 2.25" single pipe with a OEM style muffler. WAY TO QUIET
The one issue I had was once installed, the passenger collector was about 1/8" from my spring shackle. When a bar I was able to nudge it over a bit so there would be less chance of contact.
When I got the Hedmans, I figured I'd sandblast them and paint from some high temp stuff. After sandblasting them for several hours with very little paint coming off, I gave up Gave em a quick coat of high temp and installed. If you want them to look nice, I'd go with some coated ones. The coating on mine when unboxed was just for corrosion resistance and not high temp. If I ever pull my engine, I'll take the time to sandblast again and repaint properly.
Now it has a great sound at idle and running but not too loud at all when on the highway. I love it.
The part number FF393 shown below will fit the 77.5, 78, and 1979 ford F250s 4x4 with FE big block. Below is 428 mustang. I will post pics of what they look like on my truck.
