F150 ecoboost to F350 6.2 towing ?
I just recently upgraded to a larger travel trailer knowing that I would be upgrading the truck along with it. The new TT is a Wildwood 31BKIS and its 8150lbs dry, probably about 9500-9800 wet knowing how my old TT weighed in full.about 1100lbs on the tongue from when I weighed it.
I'm currently towing with my 2011 f150 ecoboost 3:73 max tow.
I absolutely love the towing power and great low end torque provided by this drivetrain, however I want a heavier truck with more payload capacity.
This brings me to my question, how will and F350 6.2 with 4.30 gears compare as far as pulling through the hills? Will it feel underpowered or about the same.
I kinda wish I could get the same engine/trans combo in the SD to be honest as I'm pleased with it, I've towed the old TT (7500lbs wet) around 10000 miles with this truck.
Also, while not towing, is 13-14 mpg a reasonable range to expect?

I just did the same thing back in march. We upgraded to a new Jayco Eagle 314BDS with a dry weight @8000lbs witch I ran out of cargo capacity in my F150 Eco with max tow, so I got an F350 crew cab 6.2 gas with 3.73 rear. Like you I loved the ecoboost power and after towing all summer (@2000 miles) I am more than pleased with my 350 with power and especially handling the extra weight of the TT. It's a different power where you see the low end grunt of the Eco vs the top end power of the 6.2. We just traveled @800 miles from Pa to NC empty and I averaged @15.7 for the trip towing can range from 8.5-10.5. If you have any more direct question I would be glad to help you out.

Yah, but don't forget you had lay off the throttle so you didn't run over the pedestrians crossing the road. Lost some time with that!

Those 35's eat up more power than your tune would have been able to cancel out too. When I first drove my truck off the lot (6.2 SCAB Short Bed with 4.30 gears) it was a missile. Now with the 37s its nothing like it used to be

There's only an inch and a half and 44lbs (11lbs/tire) difference between the stock tires I had (Mich LTX AT/2) and the Toyo's I have now. I can't see it eating up that much.
Plus the tune's giving me another 30hp (93 tune) so I think I'm pretty close to stock. I dunno, too early to think just yet.
Regardless, the EB is a nice motor but I'm not all that thrilled with the F150 body style, would take the SD platform over it anyday...
The Ohio meets are perfect for anyone looking at getting a new rig, pretty good variety of trucks to ride/drive.
Plus the tune's giving me another 30hp (93 tune) so I think I'm pretty close to stock. I dunno, too early to think just yet.
Regardless, the EB is a nice motor but I'm not all that thrilled with the F150 body style, would take the SD platform over it anyday...

I was looking for a left over '12 lariat (more rebate money) which there were not much left to choose from. We have gone to MA twice 800 mile round trip with both the Ecoboost with our 2011 passport 300bh 5500lbs dry and this past year with the F350 and the new Jayco Eagle 314 @8000lbs dry and each truck pulled each trailer great. I picked up our new Eagle with the F150 from our dealer who was less than 30 miles away, it towed it ok you could tell the extra weight was back there and once I got my F350 it handled the weight a whole lot better.

We towed over 4300 miles down through Tennessee this summer with our 11 F250 6.2 3.73's and it pulled our 8500lb 34 ft V-Lite no trouble at all and we averaged 9.3 hand caculated for the entire trip. We have averaged abt 17 on a trip to Williston and Minot last year running abt 70mph with 4 people in the truck.

I don't mind waiting, I ordered my wife's Focus exactly how she wanted it as we'll as both my Mustang and the F150 too. I'm particular and willing to pay a bit more for what I want. Looks like ill be ordering an F350 6.2 with 4:30 gears in Lariat trim early next year.

I've got a 2012 6.2 with 4:30 gears, pull a 14,000lb 5th wheel toyhauler. In march went from MN to Tucson, AZ and back in April. Total average for entire trip, hand calculated was 7.8 mpg. No problem with long 8% grades, 50mph in 3rd gear on a 3 mile stretch. Get 14-16.5 on the road and in town mix running empty. Had 6.4 08 diesel which only got 9.5 pulling the same rig. Couldn't see the $8,000 plus for the diesel this time.
